Have never seen so many headline stories about what is, at best, a fairly interesting motor (GT 86 and derivatives such as this soft top).
Can only conclude that Toyota are paying PH towers for excessive coverage.
No suprise really, just observing.

lol i love the PH dodgy photoshops
With Toyota's more recent convertibles, I'll be surprised if this version isn't better than the real thing And don't look to Nissan for any help.
They should hire Helllbound, he makes it look so simple! I'd buy that...

I'm a fan of cheap, rwd cars that are fun to drive. The fact that this car is made by Toyota may be signalling the start of a shift away from modified fwd hatchback based coupes, towards better (to drive) rwd coupes. Can only conclude that Toyota are paying PH towers for excessive coverage.

I don't think the coverage is excessive, so Toyota may need to pay PH way more.
Well done to Subaru/Toyota for developing this car, and well done to the motoring press for promoting it. It may just help stop the rot.
One other point, if Toyota and Subaru can still make money on the basic versions, it just shows how much money other companies must be making on simpler fwd cars. Either that or rwd is not much more expensive than fwd to build, which is probably closer to the truth.

Doesn't it say online somewhere that the original MX-5 was cheaper to make than the RWD 323 but could be priced much higher than the 323?Perhaps the predominance of FWD is also to do with sharing common platforms and parts?

Too many web pages in my opinion and a great deal of that into how outdated and frankly ugly the car is with a few "oh I've almost wet myself, I can't wait to put a deposit down" posterstommy vercetti said:
Has the actual car gone on sale? Feels like Toyota has been talking about this for centuries.
Toyota sent me a preliminary brochure at the start of the week but it didn't give any clues, though I suppose if they've got to the brochure stage having paint options it cant be far off. Toyota dealers have already ordered their showroom stock and colour choice. They WILL be in the showrooms from June. For all those whining about the cost of the car, have a look accross other manufacturers price lists and see what £ 25k will buy you, some pretty ordinary stuff.I've seen one in the flesh (coupe)and it looks amazing, the droptop will be a canvas roof so will have a decent boot and no added weight ( or suffer from "fat arse syndrome" like the metal folders do).The whole point of this car is that the basic car will be great, with encouragement from Toyota to modify the thing with wheels, suspension, bodykits etc so you make it look how you want it.The next thing to it ( ie rear drive, good handling etc, costs rather a lot more for no more fun and a load more running costs.
The GT86/BRZ is IMO one of the most exciting cars in years as it has all the correct ingredients to make a great car at a relatively attainable cost. Making it into a convertible is a great idea as it broadens the potential market so that people who like the concept of the coupe but prefer drop tops won't be left out. I hope this car is the success it deserves to be, as Toyota/Subaru have made a genuinely interesting car for drivers.
