An early Monaro (as posted above) is the answer.

It's modern, simple, great to 'hoon' and rumbles like a V8 should. It's practical, roomy and it's less muted and refined (in a good way) to the everyday German BMW/Audi/Mercs and also i'd wager easier and cheaper to fix.

Manual 'box too!

Hmmm, that's a lot of plus points. Only downer is the MPG but what do you expect from a V8!

Get it bought!

Just had a look at the c4's, unfortunately outside of the 7 asking budget..
They start from about £6k, but you won't find them in huge numbers. Sadly most in the UK are auto's, although I think just as many if not more where built as manuals in the US.

That said, as far as auto's go they 4l60's in the C4 are not too bad and work well with the big V8.

Shame it's sold frown

CHEVROLET CORVETTE 300 HORSE 6-SPEED LT1.

If you don't mind an auto though and don't mind spending a couple of weeks looking you'll likely see a couple of candidates.

I recently bought a 3rs gen camaro. It's really really really really bad in the wet. It starts to drift at 20-30 mph on virtually any corner in the wet. Sounds cool but it's a big car. Add that to the fact that it's very torquey low down. It's verging on dangerous on wet country roads at any speed. I'm starting to think there is something wrong with it it's so bad

I've owned one and driven a few 'x308' AJ8 V8 jags and they don't sound like a V8 at all, the supercharged ('R') versions are even 'worse' because of the supercharger whine. Other then that an XK8 fits well, but budget for an exhaust.

certainly doesn't sound right. The 3rd Gen was praised for it's handling when new. How old are the tyres? Crappy cheap hard tyres will not serve you well in a car like this. Then it's onto checking all the usual suspension wear items like bushes, balljoints, shocks and springs.

A few aftermarket mods can totally transform them too, which it's worth remembering American cars are designed to modded in the aftermarket, the "out of the box" setup is very much a middle ground to cater for the masses.

No problem with my 530 horse C4 ZR1 in the dry or the wet and it's currently wearing Toyo 888's tongue out ... 300hp is right. My Car is very fussy with tyres. I had a near new set of Goodyears removed a few years back as they were crap. For all round use the best it's had so far are Goodyear F1 GSD3's, great grip in the dry when up to temp and fantastic in very heavy rain. unfortunately no longer available. A close second is Michelin Pilot Sports. The Toyos have the grip but lack the feel.

Try the CCCUK web site as well for cars for sale
