I bet if you added up all the public transport or taxi fares it would have cost in the last 3 years to do 43K miles you'd be well in the black when the two costs are compared.

A word of advice, don't add up vehicle bills as it will only depress you smile

I would hate to think what my three have cost over the past three years frown

Other PHers look away, you'll have bigger bills that I have .......

I have a feeling that on average my M5 has cost more than that just in fuel (on a per mile basis) however it's an M5 not a Corsa. If you want depressing take a look at the bills that came with my S3.

I want an Alfa 159 to be honest ... Lol.

So the whole reason I started this was to CONVINCE myself that a Corsa is still expensive to run and the 159 Alfa cant be " that much more " lol

I was suggesting that using public transport/taxis to do all of your last 3 years journeys would have made £12k look a total bargain.

And you still have an asset worth £1.5k at the end of it.

I started recording my fuel usage on one of the android apps but decided not to bother in the end. Far too depressing, it is what it is.

I bought my car in November for £995 and paid £215 to tax it.

Since then it's done about 4,500 trouble free miles.

Fuel: £1,100
Insurance: £503 (paid in one go for 12 months)
Tax: £215

Its on nearly 99,000 and had a service at 93k, its not had one with me. Nothings gone wrong and it doesnt need an MOT until November.

So far then thats 62p a mile in total, however by MOT time it should be down to 40p a mile in theory, then we hope nothing goes wrong with it laugh

I've not bothered with depreciation and the like, how much further can a V reg car depreciate?

Not suggesting you are, but if you're the type to budget everything and then worry about it, don't get the 159. The 156 has nearly bankrupted me partly because I love it so much - drive it more than I need to, have stupid stuff like paintwork done when everyone else would leave it, and so on. See my garage for the full sordid horror.

Cheap? I caught a bus with my wife a couple of weeks ago. Walked to mother in laws for mothers day but then couldn't be arsed to walk home. Me thinking the same as you, we'll save money by jumping on a bus for the 1 1/2 journey - it cost just under £4!!! A taxi is £2.50 for the first mile round here!!

But it looks fantastic. Lol.

Yer, I get your point. Eye watering read.

I will have one. But I dont want my life to evolve around whether it goes wrong or not.

I'm glad im a mechanic. The most expensive repair to my car was when the clutch went. It cost me £40 for a new clutch and a Saturday with a mate.
