They're common as muck round here, good car if you want something with high running costs that doesn't turn heads.
And that's the answer in a nutshell as to why they're so cheap. VW Phaeton is much nicer if you want something ruinously expensive.

Looks like alloy of car for the money if you ask me, also ages well as the range has remained pretty samey for years.

Really? An enlarged Passat is much nicer than a Bentley!?

The Phaeton is a lovely piece of kit for sure, but the Conti GT has presence, style, looks, that fabulous Bentley interior, and a sense of occasion completely unmatched by the Volkswagen surely?

Utterly horrid cars IMO so it's no surprise they depreciate with the same vigour as other expensive aspirational cars. When push comes to shove footballers and arabs want something new and shiny, not a second-hand model. Then add in some sky-high running costs. Hence the savage depreciation.
Genuinely curious. Given that it outperforms a 911 whilst out limoing an S Class and is probably one of the most complete high performance grand touring cars on the road, how is it "utterly horrid"? smile

What about this one? You think they'd take the washing down before shooting the photo, or drive it somewhere that looked half reasonable

They had to park it there in case the real owner saw it on the road and took it back.

Genuinely interested as to why so many people "enthusiasts" on PH slate anything expensive or prestige and not 100 years old, but old bangers that cost a round of drinks are praised to high heaven. Eg this thread or the Audi bashing thread yesterday where anyone who drives an Audi is presumed to be in sales, and failing in sales. Absolute tosh!

Is it jealousy or are you just mad?

I would much prefer this Bentley to your £500 V70 350,000 mile snotter.

It's all about the image. Apparently.

Footballers don't drive £500 Volvos so the fact that the Bentley is faster, more luxurious, more comfortable, quieter, and generally better in every single way is irrelevant. smile

Taking a new value of £140k new, now 8 years old and worth 22% of original value at 60k miles.
I bought my BMW 650 with 47k miles at 6 years old for 22% or it's original price.

So, looks like the Bentley depreciates less, is faster with a much nicer interior. While it does not appeal to me, from a top trumps perspective it must be hard to beat.
Each to their own.
Slightly less than impressed with the photo's in the Bentley advert though.

Well, the GT is just a sawn-off big Passat wink

They're horribly tasteless - mostly because they are obviously the product of the VW empire. Even the interiors are stuffed full of bits of Passat.

They're fantastic cars. For some reason, they always get a bashing on here, but they really are great to drive, more comfy than a comfy thing and sound bloody good too! They're also not ruinous to run if you don't use Bentley, rather an independent specialist smile

I wonder what people would be saying about the GT if it had come out of the factory with Audi badges?

R8s get a mixed reaction due to the badge.... if the badges were swapped (ie. the R8 had Bentley badges and the GT had Audi badges) would opinions also largely 'swap' over?

For me, it's nothing to do with the badge. When I drove the R8 I really wanted to like it and thought I would. When I drove the GT, I wanted to hate it!

only driven the GT Speed variant

devastatingly quick and luxurious, marred only by the relatively low range due to the combination of low mpg and small tank - not really a Grand Tourer if it needs to stop at pretty much every petrol station on the route

A friend of mine has one and I must admit to being impressed with the quality of the build and how it went for such a large car. It's probably suffered the same image problems of late as the Range Rover Sport of being a bit of a flash footballers/WAGS car, but if you can see past that, you're getting a hell of a lot of car for the money.

They do have a terrible image in the UK but the real problem is that they are a very good car.

If you pick one which doesn't have the Tinker's spec interior it is very difficult to find an English car which is a pleasant environment, a good drive and fits the family.

I'm talking more about the Flying Spur in this regard but what other car is there in the same league if you want a nice comfortable family car with a classily English style interior?

On the topic of depreciation, can anyone beat this in terms of year on year value loss?

2005 list price - £318,620 and now available 7 years later for a paltry £89K, a deprecation of 72% or £32,802 per year!

It's probably already been said, but I find this more appealing than the footballer cast-off pictured at the beginning.

Ah, there it is, it's an image thing...! laugh

Never mind that it's a most wonderfully engineered super high performance GT that will crack 200mph and yet take two people and their luggage across Europe in a complete effortless comfort, a footballer bought one once so yeeaach! biggrin
