I've been doing this to things since the 80s biggrin Not on the outside of cars though.

The roof of my Chevy is covered in photos that I have taken, but on the inside...

I think it looks st on almost everything but even worse (as that RX-7 above proves) is sanding the paint off of panels to let them rust. Tetanus jab anyone?

I used to do that to my skateboards around 1998. Think that pretty much says it all really.
yes

I copied Kurt Cobain's genius and did something similar to my electric guitar whilst I was at school ... The only remotely genius thing I was able to do with it I might add!

That looks great, IMO. The fact you took those photos makes it personal to you.

All the other pictures posted so far just look wk. It isn't even unique anymore.

I love the base car, but I'm really torn between love and hate with what they've done to it.

But then I drive a satin black MX5 with home made carbon panels held on with cable ties, so my opinions may be safely ignored.

It's a personal taste thing, I happen to think it looks utterly gash but that's just my opinion.

I see, it means doing to your car what nine year old girls do to their pencil cases.

It's another stage in car 'art'. Would I do it and do i like it? No. I do however appreciate how it fits in to popular culture though.

In a similar vein I don't like decals but if I think they look good on the GT3 and Boxster Spyder

Whilst we're on the subject of "explaining" things - can someone explain the above please? I've seen it on about 2 or 3 mashed-up Corsa Bs in the last week, and it looks ridiculous.

There is a theory it's a JDM street racer/drift thing to show lateral G.

I've also read it evolved from some gangster thing involving train handles (which I didn't take seriously either).

Mostly though it's because people have seen it, liked it and copied it. I'm slightly ashamed that while I was competing against Nissans I had a Nissan badge as a trophy hanging from the rear tow eye of my Mazda. I cut it off as soon as I stopped competing in the car because of shame.
