RE: Spotted: Lotus Cortina Mk2

There's a lot of love on here for this, myself included. I really love the idea of a classic shape car that has been modernised. The lads in the RSOC back in 1990 started stuffing Cosworth YB engines into MK2 RS2000s and that was a wonderful concept - BDA power with modern reliability and lower cost!

A former acquaintance of mine had such a beast. A hearing aid beige 1100L he inherited from his grandmother which, after a couple of years of solid work, and a lot of money, sported a 300-odd bhp Graham Goode tuned YB, and a chopped down Sapphire Cosworth 4x4 drivetrain. Apart from a lower stance and fat rubber, it looked standard. Even down to the 1100L badge on the back.It was brilliant, but terrifying. Properly, genuinely, 'oh sweet jesus I am about to die' terrifying. The acceleration was simply vicious.
I am sure that it is a lovely thing. Fast old Fords are gaining a massive following however, and given how high Mk1 Cortinas a la Lotus have risen, it won't be long before the Mk2 goes the same way.
When that happens, the owner may regret that this car has thrown away its originality. Long term it may be better in original spec.
If you are bothered about resale that is...

ow this sort of post is what PH's is all about, I assume that the information here is correct, and, though I served my time on Fords in the mid-70's this post has taught me something I didn't know.

Looks like a fun and interesting combination!
I do wonder whether it was actually built from a MK2 Lotus or just a Mk2 shell and is a "recreation" as per the advert? Wording seems a little ambiguous. If it's just a normal MK2 shell then fair play, what a great bit of work. I'd be less impressed if someone had chopped up an original Lotus though.

Its a bog standard Mk2 Cortina base car - so no probs here..When that happens, the owner may regret that this car has thrown away its originality. Long term it may be better in original spec.

Agreed in full, if it's a standard Mk2 it's a great thing, saved a bodyshell from almost certain death eventually, given the shape a new lease of life, if it's a genuine "Lotus-Cortina-MK2-Cortina-Lotus" (see waht I did there?) the person or persons that demolished it's provinance should be hung, drawn and quatered!
Bet it's loads of fun what ever........

Agreed - Looks like the donor car was a standard Mark 2 Cortina, not a Lotus, so not a heinous crime at all!I do wonder whether it was actually built from a MK2 Lotus or just a Mk2 shell and is a "recreation" as per the advert?
