RE: Toyota GT 86 meets Toyota Sports 800
Discussion
The Japanese love affair with 800 coupes is long established. The Honda N600 was fun but the S800 was prettier and sold in larger numbers. Useful turn of speed too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ixBjghgICY

Is it the first or second year of Marketing Degrees where they repeat ad nauseum 'One will use every opportunity possible to disinter relics from the past for cheap and easy marketing points.'?
Yawn.
I don't know about this car. Am I interested? Can I be bothered reading it?
Toyota, you could have avoided all of this if you'd just kept the Celica RWD. Look at where the MX-5 is now. The Celica name could have been equally known and revered if you'd kept the Celica RWD or sold sporty JDM RWD cars elsewhere as well as Japan.
I'm not sure I am being unduly irritable, but two BMW Car features to coincide with new M models in CAR Magazine in the last year or so have made me a bit dismissive of such lazy and predictable marketing advertorials.

I can't help but think that in 15 years time Hyundai/Kia will have all but wiped out Toyota in the reliably-average sector of the market.
As for the sports offerings, the Hyundai Coupe looks a lot better than the new Toyota GT...
It may be a prettier car, but Genesis Coupe not available in UK is it? As for the sports offerings, the Hyundai Coupe looks a lot better than the new Toyota GT...
3.8l V6 is rather a different ethos too.
I know what everyone is going to put, its about driving yaada yada yada...... but
The interior of the GT86 looks horrid and cheap, whats witht he plastic bung where the ignition key uesd to go? It looks what it is inside very Toyota / Subaru / Mazda / Nissan.
Whatever happend to a nice body coloured dash panel with a few nice looking traditional dials?

Plenty out there like that - this is different. Are you saying all cars should be identical?

That grates on my nerve.
Strikes me as odd how it IS the huge majority who appear to relish the thought of owning a Toyota Sports 800. That is the SMALL, BASIC, LIGHTWEIGHT, SMALL ENGINED car.
The huge majority would at best, put up with a GT 86 ONLY if they had to and grudgingly at that. That will be the UNDERPOWERED, OVERWEIGHT, OVERLY COMPLICATED, PUDDING of a car.
Yet we are regarded by these c***s as stupid enough to believe their marketing gimp lies when they prattle on about how "car builders are giving us, the public, what we want,,,,"
F**K OFF you faeces filled marketing wkers,,,
It is YOU who ruin everything and create gaping voids where goodness used to be.

Overweight pudding!? ... You've not driven it then. Maybe we should all go asking manufacturers to build us 1 star crash test tin cans .. Cos [lightness is] race car.
The 86 weighs fk all.. Given its 5 star crash results is impressive, and feels very light and nimble to drive.
Seriously, I give up reading 86 threads.. Seem to be full of tardish comments by people who've probably not even sat in the thing.
And yeah, people only grudgingly drive the 86.. Hence the 12 month waiting list.. ( in australia (I think) anyway!..).

The usual complaint is that it doesn't look like a German car. Well, it isn't a German car, why the hell should it?Oddball RS said:
