Anyone miss the mad mods from the 1990s?

I would love one that had as much go as it did show, unfortunately they are few and far between. I drooled over the red one on ebay for hours a couple of months ago.
Ah, look at that beauty. How often do you see split rims these days? Shoehorn in a 306GTI lump and some webber carbs and you're close to perfection. Or perhaps a Turbo Technics' turbo conversion with tons of turbo lag? Back to the classifieds I go...SonicHedgeHog said:
Stumbled upon an article from Max Power about a Dimma Clio 16V from the early 90s. Took me right back. I really, really, really wanted one of those but couldn't afford the 5 grand for a fully fitted and repainted kit. I made do with a stereo from Halfords in the end. But it got me thinking. Cars these days are quite sterile. Yes, you can have a dealer fit computer with more computing power than, well, something with lots of computing power, but it just isn't as much fun as a hot hatch with a separate tape, MD, CD, DSP/equaliser and CD multichanger piled on top of one another in the centre console. The same goes for the exterior. Where are all the wings and spoilers and enormous wheel arches? Anyone else miss this golden era?
Dimma, Zender, Strosek et al were the bomb.

One of my friends got this car for £4k. The previous owner got it featured in Max Power:
It got alot of attention but then all the filler started cracking along with the paintwork everytime it got a stone chip. Someone reversed into it and the car needed a full respray due to the flip paint. I always wanted a Dimma or K-Tec kit for my Clio's but never got around to it and they ended up looking pretty standard:
It's a shame it was as reliable as a chocolate teapot otherwise I would still have the car now

It wasn't the Wembley dog track, it was the ACTUAL Wembley arena, two days before the FA cup final. We had security guards to make sure we didn't do anything 'untoward' (tempting though it was, the publicity from effing the whole pitch up v's publicity for doing aforementioned was a big legal minefield) Remember the turkey? It was real too, (Eric, I think his name was) and brought on a whole lot of political sh*te. I know, because I arranged it all The Mattig thing never moved an inch because it blew a gasket on the way there. The stories I could tell, those were the days...
I'm not sure, when we did the shoot we were on the pitch - or just at the end of it anyway. I don't remember there being a track, too busy digging up bits of turf to take home and getting in the Players Baths, Her Majesty's chair, etc How juvenile.
The Frenchie's Clios were, however, something to behold. French laws meant that everything under the engine bay had to be standard, or look it anyway. There was another outfit that did some fabulous invisible work on Escort Cosworths. Can't remember the name of the place, somewhere near Paris. The cars all looked completely standard. And went very quickly.
Escort Cosworths. I'd give an arm for a stock one these days...
PS the Mattig Astra was still a piece of sh*te

And the 90's were my era, started driving in 1998 so came through school reading Max Power when I should ahve been paying attention to A x B + C and ste like that.
However, the two cars that summed up the 90's for me were Peugeot Ecosse's 306 Sedan
And Courtenay Sport's original Nova Turbo
The latter of which, despite being being built well over 20yrs ago still survives today and is exactly how it was back in the day and was featured in Total Vauxhall magazine last year in their 'Legends' issue.
Ahhh, if I could go back... I would!
