Note also that the UK average speed acording to the AA is just above 30mph so most of the nation is dirving below this speed for most of their dricing time,
I think the AA have used the wrong average, and therefore the wrong conclusion has been drawn. My mean speed is probably 30mph, but my mode speed (most commonly occurring) is 65mph. The mean is dragged down some way by the occasional halt at junctions and traffic lights, which is 0mph of course. Consider 10 mins at 60mph followed by 10mins at 0mph - the mean speed is 30mph, even though very little, if any time was spent at 30mph. So when considering fuel savings from reducing rolling resistance, IMO you should eliminate the periods when the car is stopped, the mean speed doesn't do this.

It's very easy to misuse statistics. Ask any politician.

Ignore it, its a nonsense. My cousin is branch manager and my best mate his assistant in a tyre retailer. They tell me the figures between each letter of the rating are tiny.
Not something I'd call tiny.

Can you clarify then Jon- that A is for the best/fastest stopping tyre and up to 3M longer than the best stop.
B is for over 3M longer/worse than the best up to 7M, C is 7-12M, D is missing, E is 12-18M and F is anything over 18M. ?
