Wait until they get REALLY close then do an EMERGENCY stop.

When it gets to court say you stopped to avoid a dog/cat/rabbit in the road.

And then sue them for whiplash injuries etc.
I am sure most people would not want the hassle of court, letters, police visits damage to your vehicle etc

This happens frequently on the M5. As a regular user I've learned what cars they use to plant in your mirror to egg you on.

Sadly this method does get them numerous customers.
I got caught by a copper doing this to me about 7 years ago on the A627(M) in near Oldham when I was on my R1 (that's a bike, if you don't know) - ironically I had just been to the City Link depot to pick up a parcel containing a speed camera detector (Morpheous Geodesy; anyone remember them?).

I went past a blue Volvo estate on a roundabout (yes, I know. Blue Volvo estate rolleyes) and when I joined the (2 lane) motorway bing! right up my chuff is the Volve. So when the car in front cleared I just fked off. Another car in the way, he's there again, literally a couple of feet off my numberplate. This happened several times. Luckily, apart from speeding A LOT I didn't do anything else that I would have considered appropriate, such as diving up the inside of the car blocking me or giving the following car the finger.

I went over the M62 junction like a bat out of hell and was just heading down the hill into Rochdale and there was a Fiesta in the right hand lane. I though sod it and was jsut about to go up the inside when on came the blue lights on the Volvo.

He was actually a pretty reasonable chap, gave me a bit of a lecture on "definite bans for that kind of speed" (I'm not saying what, but it was a lot), said cheerio and off he zoomed. Not even a producer. I can only assume that his video evidence or whatever (ie. clearly "egging me on") would have reflected poorly upon me, or he was a bike enthusiast or something. Thank god I didn't make any rude gestures, tailgate, undertake or lane split!

I won't fall for that trick again.

had this not so long ago in me R32, car came up behind me fast (i was in lane 1 at the speed limit amazingly, lane 2 was empty) then literally glued itself 6 inches from my bumper, couldn't even see its lights ... as it tried to goad me into nailing it
literally? LITERALLY?

Geez, I think there should be a dictionary sticky on this forum biggrin

I had the same thing a couple years ago. I said to the BIB that i only booted it cos he was up my arse, he explained it was a zafira who was up my arse who he was behind and was gonna stop but they turned off which left him behind me. he was in an s-max and i am sure he was lying, told to slow down and let on my way.

I've been baited by a police car along a NSL road, I was in a hot hatch which stuck out like a sore thumb due to being bright yellow, loud-ish exhaust etc, he was in a diesel Astra and came flying up behind me, sat so close to my bumper I couldn't see his headlights. Whenever I crossed a roundabout I was opening a gap, but whereas I stopped accelerating at 60mph he kept speeding to get back to my bumper again. Really dangerous driving, it's an area where deer cross the road regularly, if I'd had to brake for whatever reason there is no way in hell he'd have avoided crashing into me.

When we got to a bit of dual carriageway I stayed left at 70mph and he overtook me with a really small speed differential, looking at me like a moronic ape might view a person as he did so. I suppose it must have been a slow night, and a yellow Cupra R is an easy target for a pull, but I imagine he checked my insurance, and once he knew it was valid, vehicle was taxed and MOT'd etc he tried to bait or panic me into commiting a driving offence he could give me a ticket for. It's really not, attempting to frighten or anger innocent motorists into commiting an offence, no doubt for the sake of an opportunity to be a patronising bell end to the driver, and of course generating a bit of revenue from the ticket in the process.

I know the majority of police are generally honest people, who at least make some attempt at doing their jobs properly, but I had a few instances of police drivers deliberately driving aggressively and trying to bait me in the Cupra R. Funnily enough, I've had no trouble since I got the Civic Type R, even with the ridiculously loud exhaust that I put on it, it's never had a second look.

Happened to my younger brother when he was 21, undercover 5 series tailgating him to the point where he could not see his headlights on a 70mph dual carriage way at around 11 at night. He booted it but they stayed up his arse and he ended up driving like a lunatic to get away out of frustration. Result = driving without due care and attention 6 points and revoked license as he only had it for 18 months at the time. hes got back on the road again last year paying 3.5k to insure a 1.2 corsa.

Its easier said than done to say just ignore them especially when you are very young. Not condoning booting it at all be we are all human at different stages or maturity.

Happens all the time - on one occassion there were 3 of us in the car, my passenger friend recorded it on his phone - we got pulled and told to delete the footage from the phone otherwise the phone would be taken as police evidence of suspicious behaviour.

My mate agreed to do this just so we could get on our way.

Im struggling to believe these stories about unmarked cars goading people.

Why would an unmarked car need to goad anyone? Just drive normally and im pretty sure you could find someone doing something wrong legitimately in about 5 minutes, if my driving experiances are anything to go by, and judging by the amount of idiots on the roads these days.

I think there's just a lot of people that try to shove the blame away from themselves.

This happened to me one darkening evening when I had a Scirocco II GTI which had a sharp curve in the rear window which had the effect of making cars look much lower but he was right up my chuff, back off, back up my chuff. Needless to say, I took the bait and pulled a nice gap before the blues shocked me into a slow stop. He approached as though he hadn't baited me at all and apparently thought, the way I took off, it was stolen.

I also only got a telling off but I think only because I was in "the law". The next day, I was rigorously keeping below the dual carriageway limit and travelling at a steady 60 past a lorry which threw up a stone and smashed my headlight and that cost me £60 to replace!

I have been followed by marked police cars at what I would consider an unsafe distance, in one case for over 5 miles of A/B roads. Luckily I had clocked early on that it was a police car and proceeded to drive like a saint for the entire duration, eventually leading them in a big circle (It was in my early days of driving when I would go out late at night and drive for fun). I was close to pulling over and talking to them when they finally took a different exit off a roundabout.

I have never had it happen to me, however some friends of mine claim to have had it - and knowing them well, I do not doubt what they think they saw. I can't judge whether it actually was umarked plod or not.

The only encounter I've ever had with a police car on the road was early one morning (about 2am) I was driving from York to Hull. A marked Volvo estate joined me on the A64 round York, down to Selby, across to Howden on the A63, onto the M62 back onto the A63 and finally pulled past me around Brough/Ferriby.

It was a good drive back, I wasn't holding back, but I wasn't doing silly speeds either as I had recognised the car behind.

I reckon he thought he'd stick about just to be friendly smile

Indeed, it also shows how little understanding people have of the techniques taught to drivers who develop their driving above the pitiful standards required to pass the DSA 'test'.

or we could just fit every vehicle on the road with a number of sensors and marker lights to indicate the following

1. that occupied seats have seatbelts worn ...
2. that no mobile phone is in use unless it;s physically secured to a hands free kit...
3. that no 'herbal' cigarettes are being smoked ...

also every vehicle should be fitted with an automated number plate clearing device that has sufficient fluid anbd wiping material that it only requires replenishment at MoT time

This has happened to me a couple of times.

The worst case led to me being pulled over for over 3 times the limit in a 30zone.

I will let you decide whether the copper realised he was being a tt or not when i say after he mentioned he had it on video i invited him to show me the video to prove he hadn't been tailgating, swerving and accelerating towards me then slamming on the breaks as he got closer.
I was allowed to leave with a mild slap on the wrists.

Dog is OK.
Cats/rabbits you're not allowed to swerve for.
(I recall my my copper mate reciting the mnemonic for which animals you're allowed to swerve for - any BiB clarify which is which).

Back on topic, I've experinced this on my R6. Unmarked car sat less than 2 car lengths behind me at around 60mph for about 2 miles. Plenty of overtaking opportunities but they didn't take any of them.

I knew it was them so stayed sub 60mph
Eventually we both get overtaken by another motorbike at which point they lit up and gave chase to him.

If the figures are down for the month sometimes dirty tricks are needed. My neighbour is a cop btw.
