Young driver insurance?
Discussion
Never ceases to amaze me how many threads there are from younguns and weirdly quite often their Dad's who think there is some brilliant and easily accessible secret about how to get cheap car insurance. Like it's as easy as just saying "oh yea go to www.newdriverferrariinsurance.co.uk and it's like £5 on there fully comp". There's only one way - drive without crashing over a long period whilst ageing considerably. Sorry but there is no god and there is no such thing as cheap young driver car insurance.

Yes, but there is a hell of a lot cheaper than the £3K i was quoted for a Fiat panda diesel...I now pay around £1K for a Triumph Spitfire.
hardly little or no difference is it? As a young driver Insurance is ridiculous, and anything people can do to make it cheaper helps.
I have spoken to numerous classic insurer's in recent weeks and so far only Adrian Flux will offer insurance on a classic for under 25's. A 1971 Beetle came out at £1741 for my 18 year old. That is limited to 5000 miles p.a. and tpf&t.
I also believe you don't earn NCB with a classic policy, so it could turn into a false economy in the long term.
Best of luck getting anything under £2k.

When i was young i couldn't get my Bug at the time on a classic policy so was earning NCD as it was a normal policy.I also believe you don't earn NCB with a classic policy, so it could turn into a false economy in the long term.

£1700 doesn't sound too bad (comparability), remember that the bug is unlikely to suffer any depreciation, is very simple and easy to work on and reliable if looked after correctly. Also it will teach your son how to drive properly and with a level of skill that he will never get from a modern super-mini. A few months back i had a decent little P plate 1.8d fiesta LX to get rid of for a friend wanted £300. A young lad came to look at it, liked it, went away for a quote....£5000.
Now compare that to a beetle at £1700 and that's not too bad IMO.
Regards the limited mileage, how are they ever going to know what he covers apart from MOT's? NO one has ever checked mine.....not that i ever exceed my limit
Having passed my test a week ago yesterday, I can tell you now your not going to get insurance for under a grand, saxo 1.1 desire was the cheapest car to insure for me, South Wales postcode, girlfriend 17 insured on provisional, me only been passed an hour at 18, fully comp 1600 a year with asda through confused! But I doubt it would have been much cheaper, saxo is a good car, simple yet nippy enough and can find a decent one cheap.
Mine is an R reg '97 with 50k on the clock, 10 months MOT, 5 months tax, new Cambelt and full exhaust, £350!
If you think insurance and driving is going to be cheap think again mate, also the microcar style things won't be cheap because they appear dangerous.

I found that by going to less popular cars you can make saving as they have less crash statistics (mainly because theres less of them) thats why classics are a lot cheaper, as are things like estate cars.Mine is an R reg '97 with 50k on the clock, 10 months MOT, 5 months tax, new Cambelt and full exhaust, £350!

Haha! Nah basically it was cheap and seemed like a good deal at the time, hopefully our garage will get sorted soon so I can get something for interesting with a nice place to put it!Mine is £1000PA on a spitfire (But i did spend £600 tarting it up )
I had a look at the spitfire, and that looks a beast and sounds nice too. Trouble is there are a bit pricy to buy but at least they hold their value unlike a modern car, what sort of price insurance are they? And If I had a benham I would make it look like a tt, with the lights and grill, etc.

Admiral Multicar is the only way to have decent cars at or even a cheap insurance quote when under 21.
+1 for Admiral. They were the cheapest (and still are) by miles when I first started driving back in 2007. They allow modifications too , although they dont cover the after market parts in a crash. I hate insurance.Gilhooligan said:
