Hardcastle and McCormick car was a beetle, with a 914 engine. It just looked like a McLaren.... ish.

Now, I thought that Automan used a fake Countach,I just checked, they didn't. A real LP400 was used for the show. Big budget, shame it flopped. loved that program.
Hardcastle and McCormick....two words I've not heard for a long time.

fk off!

Airwolf was real!!,
I think I read somewhere, perhaps Wikipedia (so its probably untrue) but Airwolf was sold to some German air ambulance type of mob after the series finished. It was then in a fatal accident.

The Z4 in ... Golden Eye (I think) wasnt a real one.
BMW wanted the car in the film, but didnt have production cars ready, so lent them a prototype and told them to make copies which had to live up to BMW quality.
It was a Z8 in Golden Eye which was a replica, not a Z4. Still, as it was cut in half that probably wasn't a bad thing!
It was a Z3 in GoldenEye.

It was a Z8 in The World is Not Enough, which wasn't ready and therefore wasn't actually a Z8. Thankfully they didn't cut a real one up in the film.

In a making of documentary they state that it was a valuable protoype. Obviously a GRP rep was cut up later on.

American stock car underneath IIRC?

I think they did make some Astons for that same bond film using 4x4 running gear mated to Mustang V8 engines.
The cars used for driving on ice (Jag and Aston) both had yank V8 lumps and 4x4 systems.

On another note, Eleanor in Gone in 60 seconds is a fake GT500.

Edited by DanielSan on Sunday 27th January 21:47
There were loads of Eleanors made, 12 in fact. 5 died in filming while only 3 were fully "Hero" spec and only one of them had the full interior with the "Go Baby Go" button. It was sold in 2012 at Coys Autosport sale. Price was circa £100k

Yup, totally common knowledge. Ferrari North America threatened to sue, but by then Miami Vice was so big that they negotiated the use of several Testarossas instead, and the Daytona bit the dust, blown up in one of the episodes.
Good job too, as Testarossa looked way way cooler.
GET! OUT! redcard

Absolutely! Best series ever!

Don't know what happened to the cars, but the boat is still going strong! Filmed last year...

A fake testarossa was also used in miami vice. This was used as a stunt car so as not to damage one of the two real testarossas which were used in the show. The fake was based on an early 70's De Tomaso Pantera.
