I'd have said a 'classic' Impreza prior to last weeks TG bullst (and have done here some time previously) but fk being on the same bandwagon as those 3 boring tts.

So in the same vein a Mitsubishi Evo VI preferably the Tommi Makinen edition, unmodified/lightly modified if such a thing exists.

Jensen Interceptor. Only going to go one way.
Mazda RX8. Proper tidy one, sorted engine and change. Only going to go one way (look at NSU Ro80 values)
Mk2 Jag. Yes, went up (and back down) but will steadily increase again.
TVR Cerbera 4.5 In 20 years will be as rare as hen's teeth.
Rover P5 Coupé.

Any sporting Ford that's in budget.
rx8 may go up from the lows they're at now but running costs high and due to such a low purchase price even if they doubled in ten years after road tax, mot's servicing etc you wouldn't make anything

mk2 jag - I'm wary of cars of this age as the owners that like them are traditionally older gents themselves and I personally could see e types and these type of cars dipping in value as not many 30-40 year olds are after them now, they're more into 80's cars

tvr cerbera - yes, good shout although again running costs

rover p5 coupe - can't see it tbh, same as the mk2 jag comment but even more so

BMW 850CSI

Bit over budget though

http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/b...

If kept away I'd imagine it would be worth alot one day
costly to keep
How so? What would be the major expense? Servicing?

Would 15k get you into a Mk2 Ford Focus RS?
Not one that you would want, for a future classic your looking at an RS500 for about £40k

needs to be rare, and have a bit of a following. For £15k I would say clio V6
This is the correct answer to your question. Mark 2 255bhp version of course

Get it got.
Something like this then...

http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/r...
As a comparison, I bought a lovely Turbo 2 in 1994 for 6k, when it was also 10 years old. This was right at the bottom of their depreciation curve. I sold it 14 years later for 13k and (ignoring inflation) it didn't cost me a penny to own. 5 years later that same car would now easily go for 20k - 25k if I still had it. Sure the Mark 2 Clio V6 has no rally heritage, but the demand has remained strong since launch (17k for 10 year-old Renault is an excellent residual!) and I don't see it getting any less as the years go by.

have you tried the search function?

I know it's not great, but there are quite a few threads found regarding this.
I did run a search function, however failed to find a thread that provided the information I needed tbh

Op said it would be a "cotton wool car" so I took that as either storage or very occasional use.

850CSI is very rare, very desirable and quite icontic so I think it would make a great future classic IMHO

He said he was going to buy and wrap in cotton wool for 10/15/20 years. Any of those will be as rare as anything by then. Running costs are hardly an issue if he's going to sorn it for the winter and only take it out on dry sunny summer days. He hinted at a proper garage queen.

Add the following:

Z3M Roadster
Z4M Coupe/Roadster
Escort Cosworth (Monte if in budget)
M3 (E46) CS
R26R Megane (carbon bonnet jobby)
Honda S2000 (maybe?)
Honda Civic Type R (original)
E36 M3 Evo
Mk1 Focus RS
Racing Puma
Early limited edition classic Imprezas/Evos
Lotus Carlton
Sapphire Cosworth

Probably a few more too.....
I think some of those are way out of reach of £15k already unfortunately.

Z3M Coupe is my bet.

Yeh I would literally be putting it in storage, I'm not sure there are much costs associated with this apart from a bit of cleaning afaik?

RX7?

They were a good looking car (one of the best looking jap cars in my opinion) with a wankel engine, kind of fits into the drifting / tuning scene of the 90's, and you don't see many on the road already.

Thanks smile I will have a browse through these later. Lots of great advice guys thanks, keep it coming. Seems to be a big following for the BMW's although the other lists people have posted are well worth a look into. I guess it gives me a lot of scope when I come to shopping the classifieds!

ok, sorry i missed that bit so you're right.

but, even a garage queen will need a yearly mot, yearly service and yearly work because otherwise when you come to sell people will say 'its low miles but all the pipes will be split, need recommissioning etc and the lack of history means it could be clocked etc'

i do stick by my point that running costs on a cerbera would still be high even if you took it out rarely and mk2 jags and rover p5's i still think demand will fall as the older owners get too old and pass on.

yep, they may be future classics in my opinion, but that doesn't necessarily mean they'll go up in value much.

I have to agree with you on both counts. Both cars are going through the barry-boy phase at the moment, but the same thing happened to the (original) Mini Cooper S and the RS Escorts which are both crazy money now.
