I'm not surprised they're bringing in a lower speed limit - you have to constantly have your eyes peeled driving anywhere around the centre of town, such is the number of arrogant pedestrians who cross the roads not when it's safe to do so, but when they wish to.

Gotta love the Greens eh! Brighton's bad enough already for driving in and around but that's exactly what they want.

But then, they don't use the roads, do they......

Oh, hang on a moment, yes they do. Aimlessly.

One reason why the limit is dropping to 20mph hehe

They demand their right to read the Guardian while crossing the road and ignoring all else, on their way to the lanes. Did'nt you know that?

I used to live in the North Laine, and a couple of streets down from me was a street called Tidy Street. A few years back the residents of said street decided to collectively monitor their energy usage with a view to bringing it down.

Now, being Brighton, they couldn't have done this without feeling the need to tell as many people as possible how right-on they were; they painted each month's energy usage on a graph on the tarmac which eventually covered most of the length of the street.

Too much smug in that town.

The 20 mph thing is just another mad Green party idea.
+1

I stopped taking the car to Brighton years ago.

Indeed, I rarely visit Brighton at all these days and when I do,
it's by train.

While I am very happy with a central pedestrian district, the local
council will have to be a lot more car friendly before I'll consider
spending any money there.

Disgusting dump full of smug tts, greenistas, chavs on hols and old people AFAIK. Why anyone sane would want to drive withing 30 miles of the sthole let alone in it is beyond me.

Brighton gets the council it's people voted for.
There's a lesson for us all there I think.

Mainly the students, and only Brighton Pavillion. The rest of Brighton did not elect Greens!

LOL. Nice line up of tired old stereotypes and cliches. I am only 7 miles from Brighton and most of it is actually a great place to live, quite refined, very little riff raff, quite wealthy and has a nice middle-class + educated community. Can't think of a better place to live TBH. Where's you shytehole then ? ;-).

To go back OT, I wouldn't be surprised if 20mph didn't actually increase the average speed by reducing stop-start and therefore improving fluidity.

Steady on, I've moaned about the smuggy nature of the place but there's loads of great bits! Certain aspects rub me up the wrong way but on the whole I think it's a fab town!

drivin_me_nuts, do you remember a sign at/near the two stone pillars half way between Pyecombe and the A27 roundabout that said something like "The throwing of stones is not permitted in Brighton"?

It was many years ago, but no one I've spoken to remembers it. Am I going mad? frown

Alas, no I don't and indeed you are quite possibly going mad. However, John2443 who on occasion frequents this forum, probably does. He's positively ancientsmile

Don't know if anyone else has noticed this, but when I am overtaken in a 20 zone (sorry, I do stick to speed limits), it is almost always by someone with a child in the car!

I am in the unfortunate situation of living within a large 20mph zone. Don't get me wrong, I have no problem keeping my speed down near schools when kids are likely to be around, what really annoys me is they have infected the place with speed bumps.

How about a bit of common sense, get rid of speed bumps as they damage cars, and restrict speed to 20mph when kids are likely to around, do I really need to keep to 20mph at 6am on a straight, well lit road.

Gosh. The grinding of teeth on regurgitated bile is indeed strong with this post. One is pleased to know that you won't be coming south to grace us with your presence and partially formed (or is that deformed?) perception of Brighton.

Actually I've never been there. Just felt like stirring up the thread a bit while watching the tottenham match. smile

I miss Brighton.

If I still lived there I don't think I'd be that bothered by the limit. The (admittedly very few) 20 limits around where I live now don't bother me much versus 30 mph. They aren't in places I want or would be able to drive fast anyway. Speed bumps to "enforce" the limit would bother me, though.

I'd love the council to get their noses bloodied with a drop in trade but I don't think it'll happen.
I don't.

Not been into Brighton for years. Costs too much to park and takes forever to get in or out.
