I preferred the Visa GTI, quite a little rocket. For it's day of course.
I preferred the Citroen Visa advert as well - with the Inspector Clouseau look-alike ...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zxf6UFxrZf8

Remember my dad buying a 19gt on 1st Aug 1986 1st day of D-reg, adored that car. He kept it until he got a Xantia.
Used to have the 16v up on my bedroom wall, remember as an 8 yr old my Dad going for a test drive in it, I knew more about the car than the salesman did. I was a bit of a gimp when it came to car stats

Generally everyone knows more about cars than the salesmen. However, There was a young lady selling Abarths
The cars were not selling that fast,
So she ran with her boobs out
Till the cars all but sold out,
Though now her boobs are half mast.
Can anyone remember the car ad where it gets attacked by an f16 & a bomber. Think it was a 205 gti ?
As I remember the bomber hits the cars roof as it flies over it !
They don't make them like that anymore

The BX seems to have disappeared, sadly. They seem to have crumbled to dust.
A shame. When very young I managed to drive a BX GTI for six months while the owner was posted overseas.
I really liked it..
Are there any left?
Howmanyleft seems to reckon just over 250 of all versions, with less than 100 being on the road.A shame. When very young I managed to drive a BX GTI for six months while the owner was posted overseas.

I had a 16Valve BX and it was something special after a Ford XR4x4 and an Orion 1.6 Ghia.
Great bucket seats and handling. Plenty of power from the motor and gear ratios that gave quick acceleration. it was a dark metalic grey so did not stick out and everyone seemed to think the GTi was the quicker version. The mrs hated the way it looked and did not want to be seen in it but one day she had to use it and I rarely got it back.
My young daughter asked me "why does this car only scream when mummy drives it?"
Busted!

I owned 4 Citroen BX's and several other Citroen cars over the years. I remember them when they first went on sale and wanted one straight away but wasn't able to afford a new one. I bided my time and eventually bought a grey 17RD that was 3 years old. I kept that car for about 6 years. It wasn't all that fast but it was very comfortable and was really nice to drive long distances. My next BX was a white GTi 8 valve. It was very fast but the brakes weren't up to hard driving and soon started smouldering. The head cracked on that car so that was sold on after about 6 months. Eventually I found a TZD Turbo in that lovely dark purple metallic. It looked like a GT1 as they shared the same trim and was a beautiful looking car. We went everywhere in it for several years but I wasn't using it very much in later years and stupidly sold it. It ended up as a courtesy car at a local Citroen specialist and he scrapped it after someone twisted the rear chassis towing a large caravan.
My last BX was another TZD Turbo in green which was one of the last run out models before the Xantia. I kept that for a couple of years but sold that after it kept letting water in every time it rained. The left back door had a large hole in it on the inside and I decided to get rid.
I've not seen many BX's recently or any other Citroen's of that era. The BX was a great car to drive fast on long journeys. We had several long distance trips to France in our BX's.If I could find a really nice one now I'd think about buying another BX but they are getting pretty thin on the ground now.
I still drive French cars and have done for over 30 years. My latest ones are a 13 year old 172 Clio which is an awesome car and a Renault Trafic Sport minibus taxi.
