I would buy neither though there are better choices, why are you limiting your choice? any reason in particular?
Anything else I like BMW 3 series/ Audi a4/a6 usually has to many miles on the clock or is lot older. Also needs to be four door, sporty, big boot for pram and not feel like I've given up on my youth ( only 29) ha also £6k is my max budget
Alfa 159 for £4500 and £1500 in the bank would be my choice

Ok guys I wasn't going that in-depth of who developed the engine, yes your quite right but does the op really need to know who developed the engine ?, Vauxhall did use a version of that engine in the 2.2 N/A form in the astra sri and astra coupe, vectra ,signum ,VX220 but the 2.2 suffered with timing chain issues iirc . The 2.0 turbo engine was in the vectra yes but for the most we seen them in saab 9-3 and they respond well to tuning after seeing a few hirsch upgraded ones coming in for routine services. I havent had much dealings with the st155 but my friends one seems to be pretty reliable so far and he has had his for over a year now.

The list i put above... Make sure it doesnt knock from anywhere, suspension or the engine doesnt change rattling noises when the clutch is on or off, check for rattling/grumbling noises under load, check it runs smoothly and doesnt "woosh" when on boost, check it doesnt smoke - if youve been driving it gently for miles on end and then nail it black smoke will come out once or twice - if it does it consistently you have an issue.

You have been warned! If running costs arent an issue id consider an ST220 to eliminate the diesel issues or a Vectra GSi? Bear in mind also the ST TDCi loses spec compared to the ST220, they dont come with Recaros or white dials etc.

Rear bushes. My St220 had them done at 20k, 40k and they were on their way out again when i sold it at 60k.

DMF and clutch are the obvious ones too.

Out of them 2 the Vectra as the ST 155 are full of issues.

I'd rather an ST220 than the Vectra though, I loved my old one. Awesome car.

The Vectras are pretty rare in 2.0 Turbo guise. More Astras if they're big enough?

I think the latest car to get the Ecotec 2.0 16V N/A was either the Vectra B or Astra G (mk4) both around 1999/2000. Vectra C had the 2.0 turbo, about 175BHP IIRC (Z20NET I think).

Get an Accord 2.0 Type S. Better economy than the Vectra, and without the reliability issues of the ST155.
The Type S is a 2.4, nice motor though.

I agree on the Octavia vRS, cracking car for the money.

I've had a 3.2v6 petrol vectra since 2009, and while it is thirsty, it does most things I want well.
It's just not quick enough for me hence why I'm selling it and going for an M3 biggrin

ST155 for me

We have got one done 50K miles in 3 years. Never missed a beat.
I just change the oil every 6K miles and put a can of BG244 diesel cleaner in every 12K

Great car and would get another.

The 2003-2008 Type S Accord was available with a 152bhp, 2.0L engine as well as the 187bhp 2.4L.
