But why a welded diff? Good for hooning, but a PITA for everday driving. Jeez, these are arse out cars as stock = so keep the open diff.

Like the idea of a T5 conversion tho'

I had the 1.4 (renault engined) 340 GL as my first motor when I was 17/18. Weighed like a tank but got the back end out in the wet no problem. Was good fun and a great, problem free, safe motor.
Snap. I had one as a 'gap car' for a very slippery winter about 10 years ago.
Was absolutely hilarious - every single roundabout had to be attacked! Way more fun than the 20 or so Golf GTIs that followed it...

Why spend £2,000 when a standard 360 (or even one of the boggo spec 340s) will wag its tail on demand?

The 300 series is more fun than it really has a right to be, judged by the looks and the coffin dodgers who originally bought them. 50/50 weight distribution, less than a tonne, RWD and no driver aids, all in the comfort of those huge seats (well, armchairs actually, heated of course). smokin

Hate it.

Sorry, but it's as ugly as sin.
I on the other hand love it biggrin, yes they are not everyone's cup of tea - but much more interesting then a modern 2.0 turbodiesel saloon.

And to be fair - the 300 series as a motor vehicle wasn't such a bad thing in the first place - imo.

Drift with an open diff, almost die then see the point. Welded diffs are fine in dailys, I've run them for years. Plus LSDs are bloody expensive and are normally worn pretty bad too. Welded diffs are predictable, the best thing you could possibly do to a drift car

Originally designed by DAF, started before being taken over by Volvo, de Dion rear end and leaf springs I believe.
Heard before about the 300 series been designed by DAF before Volvo took them (DAF) over - and ive heard about the De dion rear end.

But leaf springs??? - was only in one once - but it seemed extremely smooth for a car with leaf springs - smoother then a lot of cars with normal coil springs imo.

Er, sorry to ask the question, but are hydraulic handbrakes actually road legal.....?????
Yes, as long as you also have a mechanical handbrake.

I had a hydraulic handbrake in my daily driver for 7 years, right next to the mechanical one. No problem.

As with all 'sleepers', I don't really dig it at all, sure, have some performance, but I like the car to look nice too.

Ever since that scrappage scheme things like this are harder to find.

You can see the OEM mechnical handbrake and just in front of it, touching the seat, the handle for the hydraulic one.

Since everyone seems to be loving this so much, has anyone actually bought it yet? Seems like a case of want being bigger than wallet. I think this is one of those novelties that you can chuckle at for a minute when you realise someone has actually spent money doing it, but to buy it off him? You'd have to be mental.
