Can't turn off the ESP? Really?

Try pulling the ABS fuse. End of ESP...
I wondered that too although I was thinking of disconnecting an ABS sensor as frequently there isn't a convenient fuse

May I ask how many laps of the Nurburgring the author has done before this article; it may put it into perspective a little more....?

Thats highly dependent on the ABS system in question. For exampple, pull the ABS fuse on an R50/53 MINI and you get 50:50 brake bias. Have fun with that on a circuit...

You'll find a lot of modern cars rely on the ESP system for more than just the ESP. A lot of other ECUs take signals from the dynamic sensors and wheels speeds, so pulling the fuse knocks these out as well. It may also induce 'Restricted Performance' to mitigate risk associated with a lack of any roll stability control.

I will be putting a picture of this van in the cars mostly obsessing about thread.

Filled with lots of want, some performance and practicality.
ideal.

Not really a fair comparison a standard ford transit vs a modified VW running semi slicks and tweaked suspension.

Impressive none the less but in my eyes the Transit is a more impressive lap time.
+1

For a true comparison, they should put Sabine in the modded van, and this driver in a standard Transit IMHO smile

Very impressive, Dale.

But I think Sabine wins out on looks....
and in the back of the van frolics...

Brings a new meaning to "ring time"

Great time, but I can't help thinking...

Put Sabine in that Jaguar powered Transit and see how she does... smile

40 seconds is a good improvement in lap time.

What do you expect for a van lap time an 8 minute ?

It's faster than i have achieved in an Escort Cosworth but Dale has done 1000s more

laps than me.driving

How many laps has the VW driver done compared to Sabine who's done 10's of 1000's of laps??? I'd say 3 seconds a mile quicker is no mean feat, I wouldn't fancy trying it in a van lol...

You missed the bit of the article where he said the fastest lap was set on his second one where he made a mess of the gears then?

Given how 'standard' some ring-record road cars are it seems a fair comparison.

Interesting as is anything Nordschleife related. It is just a shame about all that black smoke. Hopefully the German police will pull it on emissions or Dale et al will 'fix' it.

I cannot abide dirty diesel smokers as you might be able to tell.
