I'm not a Merc fanboy by any means but I went C Class because it's likely to be the spritely one in this company, as it's a segment down in theory.

Haven't checked my figures so I may be hopelessly wrong.

I voted 530d, it's one of the most comfortable cars I've ever driven.

I'm surprised people are voting the XF. As Fox points out its an outdated design (4-star Euro NCAP rating shows how old it is) and the 4-pot 2.2d is nothing special. I've never been that impressed with the interior either. Not a bad car but not a great one either. Other than the fact its "British" I'm struggling to see the appeal.

The F10 5er on the other hand is fresh and modern having just been facelifted, and its at its best with the silk 6-cylinder 30d unit and the Auto 'box. Lots of options on the seats front (Comfort/ Sport/ With or without Lumbar etc) so just try another if the one you had a go in was poor.

As an alternative the Audi A6 may be worth a look too.

The trick with all of these cars is to stick with SE-level spec but a good sized engine, auto box, leather seats and Nav.

not in my paygrade unfortunately. You can contribute a certain amount of your own cash, but the rules generally limit this to a couple k in extras.

Have you looked at the E class hybrid? It's the 250D engine but about half the BIK.

The 530d is quicker....

Even if your list was only a 520d instead of a 530d, I'd still choose the 520d over the others. The fact you can get a 530d makes the decision even easier (seats excepted).

I've got a F11 520d and I find it the most comfortable car I've ever had and that's with the bog standard SE seats.

List is cheaper than the 530.

hmmmm, I'll have to check, but the lists have a number of other rule sets after the list price. e.g. Emissions, whole life costs, etc.

[edit] only just seen you said 330. Wanted something half a size larger.

By far the best looking is the XF, and out of those is my choice.

Having switched from the German marques last year, i' m still blown away by my XF. Ok, it is the V6 Portfolio I have, but the 2.2 is still a capable engine.
