Nah. The 0-60 would be about the same, the real world MPG too. As above, the obvious thing is the ridiculous size.
Size? Really? Here is my car in a modern car park, I don't see a "ridiculous size" difference generally

Mk2 Cortina:
Length 168 in (4,267 mm)
Width 64.9 in (1,648 mm)
2013 Mondeo:
Length 4,869 mm (191.7 in)
Width 1,852 mm (72.9 in)

Satnav?
You're taking the satellites back too then So, I stick by satnav and yes I would take the satelites back with me to demonstrate the technology!

You're badly mistaken:

Why compare to a mondeo rather than a fiesta? I too can choose the statistics to prove my case. My point being, if you look at the car in a modern car park there is not the difference you think.Mk2 Cortina:

No, the Cortina's equivalent now lies in the Focus.Mk2 Cortina:

The Escort was the equivalent of the Fiesta back then as there was no Fiesta until the 70s.
There is no Granada now and the Mondeo has taken over its mantle as each model has been pushed up a sector. The original Golf was Polo sized.
A Zodiac Mk III dimensions were:
Length - 182.75 in (4,642 mm) = still nearly 10 inches shorter
Width - 69 in (1,753 mm)- still 4 inches narrower
Curb weight - 2,828 lb (1,283 kg) = ah, there is the killer difference.
Granada Mk II (1977)
Length = 4,720 mm (186 in)(Saloon)
4,824 mm (189.9 in) (Estate)
Width - 1,791 mm (70.5 in)

Why would you compare a Cortina to a Fiesta? Surely you'd compare it to its modern equivalent which is a Mondeo. My argument based on actual experience and ownership v internet Wikipedia......

I'd go with brakes, wasn't there an old Top Gear when they had a modern car , possibly a Focus? vs a 105E Anglia braking from xx mph, the poor old 'Angle box' stopped about 1/2 mile down the road!

Real world MPG will be close to twice as much as a comparable car 40 years ago and 0 - 60 around 2 thirds ( 10 secs v 15 ) I reckon.
I'm not so sure. I have a 1973 1.8 four door saloon from BL, which does roughly 33mpg on a run and 0-60 in ten and change. I also have a 2003 1.8 four door saloon from BL, which does roughly 33mpg on a run and 0-60 in ten and change. So change it to taking a whole car back. Which car would you take and, more importantly, who would you give it to? Would you taker a Peugeot 307 back and show Peugeot and say in a very stern voice 'NEVER!'?
Would you take a VW Golf back and give it to BL and say 'This is what you have to fight against. Get rid of the Unions or face bankruptcy'?

The fuel consumption for a car of similar size / weight / performance.
The combination of today's two-litre turbodiesels and eight-speed auto boxes provide similar straight-line go than the 5 to 6-litre V-8s and V-12s and three-speed slushboxes of the early 1970s, and do more than three times as many miles per gallon.
Example: 1972 Jaguar XJ12, 5.3l, 145 mph top speed, 0-100 in 19 secs, 12-14 mpg
New F30 BMW 320D auto with factory performance pack- same internal accommodation or better, 2.0l, 145 mph, 0-100 in 19 secs, 45-50 mpg.
That's an awesome comparison! I wonder what reception a boggo spec 320d would get, set against the XJ like that in the metal. The combination of today's two-litre turbodiesels and eight-speed auto boxes provide similar straight-line go than the 5 to 6-litre V-8s and V-12s and three-speed slushboxes of the early 1970s, and do more than three times as many miles per gallon.

Surprise this hasn't been mentioned yet, what about handling? Even a basic Fiesta on economy tyres would be a revelation Id think. Tyres, suspension designs and components, and chassis design are on the whole rather improved!

I think your 70's driver would feel claustrophobic in a modern car - masses of visibility with the slim pillars all round in older cars. No ducking and diving to see around the screen pillars.

This as much as any other thing! Sat in an old Polo and was amazed at the fantastic amount of visibility.Bri
