Think I should have added a max purchase cost to this debate, some good shouts, but very high value machines.
Somewhat lower in value than a lot of suggestions so far is my 450 Chimaera. Sounds wonderful when the loud pedal is buried into the carpet and the over run is epic Ginger goblin said:

Abarth 500. Lovely sounding things straight out of the box.
As you quoted directly under me I assume you aimed it at my post? Abarth 500. Lovely sounding things straight out of the box.
For what it's worth, and in the result of being in the right place at the right time,I paid less for my 4 year old GTS than a new fully optioned Cooper S, or no doubt about the same as one of those Ltd Edition Abarth 500 things.

I was behind one of those MINI John Cooper "Works" things on the M62 a bit since - not sure if it was a PHer, reg was something that looked like "LOON".
Anyway - it was crackling and popping like crazy - it sounded brilliant. No idea if that is how they come "out of the box".
No and it's an MOT failure. Anyway - it was crackling and popping like crazy - it sounded brilliant. No idea if that is how they come "out of the box".
Cars sounding good shouldn't be about the loudness and tone of wasted energy exiting the pipe.

No, not at your post. Would have quoted otherwise. Your example was quite real worldy. oh.. your not joking?
For what it's worth,The Cooper S and JCW Minis all pop and bang as standard from new. It's built in and not an MOT failure!
The only standard car that has ever made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up was a Ferrari F355.
Specifically, this one, in this best motoring video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detail...
I have a version of this video with better audio than the youtube one though

BMW M3 CSL sounded pretty awesome on standard exhaust.
I'd disagree with this slightly, induction noise they sound awesome, but exhaust noise they sound as terrible as every other M3 IMO. Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
