Think I should have added a max purchase cost to this debate, some good shouts, but very high value machines.
Somewhat lower in value than a lot of suggestions so far is my 450 Chimaera. Sounds wonderful when the loud pedal is buried into the carpet and the over run is epic biggrin

TVR exhaust notes were always raved about. A lot of the rumble of old Yank V8's are a great noise. Just about any supercar/hypercar you can list.

Good point about TVR's, should know I've had enough, but I'm thinking of new cars showroom fresh with no mods

For the money you have to spend, current M3 model or the M3 model before.

Abarth 500. Lovely sounding things straight out of the box.
As you quoted directly under me I assume you aimed it at my post?
For what it's worth, and in the result of being in the right place at the right time,I paid less for my 4 year old GTS than a new fully optioned Cooper S, or no doubt about the same as one of those Ltd Edition Abarth 500 things.

BMW M3 CSL sounded pretty awesome on standard exhaust.
I'd disagree with this slightly, induction noise they sound awesome, but exhaust noise they sound as terrible as every other M3 IMO.

I was going to say this (biased of course). Has to be heard in the flesh, YouTube clips don't do it justice.

I was behind one of those MINI John Cooper "Works" things on the M62 a bit since - not sure if it was a PHer, reg was something that looked like "LOON".

Anyway - it was crackling and popping like crazy - it sounded brilliant. No idea if that is how they come "out of the box".
No and it's an MOT failure.
Cars sounding good shouldn't be about the loudness and tone of wasted energy exiting the pipe.

What? How cheap did you get your GTS for!

I'd probably vote for the Lexus LFA here, it's just glorious. The Ferrari 599 GTO sounds great standard too though.

No, not at your post. Would have quoted otherwise. Your example was quite real worldy.

Brace yourself for this one: Ford Fiesta 1.0 Ecoboost

If we're talking purely about the sound the engine makes without any exhaust voodoo and witchcraft then yeah, three cylinder engines sound fantastic.

oh.. your not joking?
For what it's worth,The Cooper S and JCW Minis all pop and bang as standard from new. It's built in and not an MOT failure!

Why would that be an MOT failure? Oh wait, you don't know what you're talking about.

The only standard car that has ever made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up was a Ferrari F355.

Specifically, this one, in this best motoring video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detail...

I have a version of this video with better audio than the youtube one though smile

I can remember spectating at Brunchenn at the 'ring in 2003 when they were released, were 3 of them going round together, could hear them coming from miles away! I think you either love or hate the raspy exhaust noise from the M3s really...

Too much joy. Can't allow that.
