Aygo or fiesta? 3.5k to spend..

I wrote this on another topic.
Aygo/C1/107 are fantastic little cars. The other halfs sister has a 2006 Aygo and its just clicked over 126k. Its abused, not looked after, she even didn't get it serviced for 40k miles and gave her no trouble. Just passed its MOT and just needed a new tyre, and some rear shoes which is not bad.
Sits happily on the motorway no trouble at all. Does pick up runs from the airport and can take 2 passengers and 2 big suitcases no problem. They will never be quick from a standing start, but once you wind them up they are good fun.

If I had a penny for every time I've seen an Aygo/C1/107 bobbing and bouncing about, its short wheelbase and less than optimal aero robbing it of the plantedness one senses in the Fiesta... and if you crash, there isn't much protection, whereas the Fiesta is a surprisingly sturdy thing.

I've done 70,000 miles (mostly motorway) in them. I appreciate all that time driving them doesn't impart the same level of knowledge as occasionally seeing one being driven by someone else but, with the greatest of respect, you're talking arse.News to me. I thought the Daihatsu engine was very well regarded. More here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_KR_engine (There are/were concerns about Smart's 3-pot being a bit unrelaible for high mileages.)
There is an Aygo sub-forum of the Toyota user club which should give any relevant horror stories. I lurked there for a couple of months before buying mine.
Should be plenty of low miles ones to buy (esp if you look at C1/107s, too).
FWIW, my ex has a current shape Fiesta and it is a better car WRT materials, comfort, toys, etc. She had an old shape ('07?) Fiesta 1.25 before that and it was not as good, and wasn't very economical.

I take our 107 all the time and love it. Long motorway runs are okay, easier to cruise @ 80 than 70 due to the long gears (revs just too low @ 70 to hold speed on hills)
Refined and comfortable for what it is, goes okay if you use the revs and peanuts to run (Ours is zero rfl and 55mpg however it's used)capable on snow and ice.
Nighly recommended, if it was my only car I wouldn't feel short changed.

Yep. Seriously lacking in longitudinal and aerodynamic stability above 60 or so.
Utter bullst.I drive one day in day out on the motorway. I am above those speeds daily.
It's not even remotely unstable in any way, well into 3 figure speeds.
Edit to add, same question to this chap:

I've driven unstable cars, the 107/aygo/c1 isn't one of them. Actually seems like good aerodynamics with low noise levels and low wind noise generally for the type of car.
I don't tend to go over an indicated 90ish but I dare say the you could get the speedo to show 3 figs. 115mph would need a very long steep hill/supercharger/inaccurate speedo/nitros/brown trousers/optimistic internet hero with back seats folded. (the tyres are T rated 118mph)
It's very high geared (around 3k @ 70mph IIRC) so may go faster in 4th

Why is it out of these two cars by the way?
I had an A3 2.0tdi sport back in 2004 and although it was no where near as good as our 1 series as a bit dull, it averaged 49mpg and would see mid 60's on a steady run at 70mph.
My brother has just bought an 04 plate one that is mint with 85k miles on it, 2.0tdi sport, with leather and bose and paid £3400 for that.
That is in a different league altogether than an Aygo and for motorway work will beat it on comfort and mpg.
