£25k for that 911. Quite amazing value with a warranty and nothing to service for another 18 months.
Indeed sounds prety good to me.I quite like these "real world" comparisons far better and more useful than the usual photoshopped/make-believe drivel on most websites.
I think rather than focusing on one car, regular group tests between "PH" cars would be useful especially at the more affordable end of the scale whether new or used.
i.e. best buys under £20k, £10k, £5k, etc
So, editors, what do you say? I have a nice little Impreza you can stick in the 5 to 10k bracket
Would LOVE to see the exclusions on that warranty......I would bet a significant sum that engine destruction wont be covered.
Catastrophic failure therefore being potentially financially ruinous which weighed against a new fully warranted BMW makes this a daft comparison.
The 911 certainly appeals more but Joe Public cant realistically use just either of those cars to answer the same question cant he/she?

I agree that the 1 series vs the world is getting a bit boring now. I actually think comparisons like this between new and used are much more interesting. people are often too blinkered to look at the more unusual alternatives and then too scared by the thought of running costs, when often in reality they aren't as bad as they think. There are plenty of options out there for 25k with pretty useless rear seats and a 5 seconds 0-60 time.

I brought this up in one of the other threads. £35k give or take, daily driver/commuter, needs occasional back seats, age unimportant though reliability is. Real world choice.
I picked neither..... still looking!

Include general running costs i.e. servicing, tax, consumables too and hopefully a few more people will opt for PH cars rather than a A2/3/4/5/6/7 or 1/3/4/5/6/7 Series diesel in white with 19" wheels

THough to be fair, i think the bragging rights thing is a non-issue. I see an M135i and think (stereotypically) "Hmmm, working to middle class person who is doing ok"
Looking at the Porsche, I'd wonder why the guy couldn't afford a new one...lol
[Flame suit on]
I'd like both in my garage, please. The porker would be an excellent weekend foil the the daily usability of the BMW.
I should probably ignore this comment as it looks like you are just trolling, but why would you assume this? How would you know the driver hadn't bought it brand new for example?THough to be fair, i think the bragging rights thing is a non-issue. As an aside, I don't know how it would be possible to keep a 911 in good condition for sub £1k per annum - I've spend more than that on average over the past 2.5 years on a 2003 Focus RS.
I'm sure sub £1k per annum is possible but surely the condition will just deteriorate if you are skimping on the maintenance, in which case the car won't be as fun to drive as it could be, which would sort of defeat the point of having it in the first place...

though not as much as you'd think and if you really needed a proper boot and rear-seat space you'd be better off with the S3 or a Golf GTI.
I'd be all over the 911 myself, but the above quote surprised me. I thought the 1-series boot/back seat was very spacious. Plenty of room for 2 adults on a long journey and the boot can swallow as much kit as you'd expect a hatchback to take. Some of the comments on here are just plain rude; is this Pistonheads or The Sun? Get over it, if you don't like the comparisons, don't read them (but I bet you did!). Are you paying to receive these articles? No! Does it take time to produce these reviews, it sure does so have some respect for the editors. There is a good mix of articles on here to cover most petrol heads; just because you don't like this series, no point wining on about it!
Still thinking about the best all round car for my purposes!

The PH fraternity brought this onslaught of 135i comparisons on themselves with countless off topic disposable 'or you could just buy a 135i' comments, in response to pretty much every article on here for the last six months.
Usually by people who seemingly have never driven one.
I rather like this cheeky riposte by PH.

Not trolling, just assuming. I'm sure I'm not the only one to assume this. Apart from brakes and clutch which are clearly wear-and-tear items, there's not much the Porsche warranty won't pay out for. Should someone be unfortunate enough to suffer a dead engine, Porsche will install a completely new unit, ancilliaries and all. The only assumption is that the car is serviced at a respectable dealer, using genuine parts Catastrophic failure therefore being potentially financially ruinous which weighed against a new fully warranted BMW makes this a daft comparison.
