RE: Enough on that BMW already: PH Blog

Thanks for all the articles. Very interesting and entertaining.
After > 4000 miles in mine I can honestly say I intend to keep it until it falls to bits (longest I have ever kept a car before is 2 years). The weird steering feedback and admittedly ugly face are forgiveable when you set all the sport stuff up and give it a bit of stick.

Good articles - thanks PH for taking the time to do them. I went off petrol BMWs years ago with the introduction of DBW throttle, but I keep hearing so many good things about the 135i I'll get myself a test drive when I next change my car ![smile](/inc/images/smile.gif)
By the way, did I miss a summary 'end of test period' article summing up what the car was like to live with and how it compares to all the cars in brief?

Its just an ugly car with average dynamics
^ of course you've driven one and are thus well placed to comment on its chassis shortcomings?I still couldn't give a toss about it being 'ugly' - which it is, bit better in blue - as its stonking performance, much-improved practicality and frugality are unmatched and that's even before RWD or having 6-cylinders are mentioned.

Interesting articles, although via your tone it sounds like PH aren't so keen anymore? Any final words on the car?
I too found these comparisons with a 'benckmark' car very interesting and informative. There will inevitably be some moaning on the forums if you do it, but I for one would welcome a 'farewell summary' article on the car. For example, are you happy to see it go....? Real world MPG, did anything go wrong with it? that sort of thing. Just a few paragraphs will do. TBH I am disappointed that this article isn't just that, but instead reads like an apology for one of the most interesting and informative bits of motoring journalism I have encountered for quite a while!
Please do a 'fun cars that are also economical' series next. 10-15K price range. Benchmark car perhaps the Fiesta ST (which is getting a lot of Forum mentions now, like the BMW was), or Renaultsport Twingo 133, Suzuki Swift...........pitch it against a used K-series Elise for starters :-)
Thanks again for a great series of articles.
Cheers
Jerry
So the forum is littered with the eternal argument "why have an X when you can have a Y?"...
PH Towers think "well, let's find out then".
Forum is littered with troggs slagging PH Towers off for trying to solve the conundrum.
Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Pretty standard. Shame.
Oh well, I enjoyed them.....

Its just an ugly car with average dynamics. Granted, it has a nice six pot with good performance figures, but really if its not much to look at and the chassis fails to match the engine, it can't be as good as it has been made out.
No you're right, we made it all up for fun. Busted.
