I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. I fear something terrible has happened.
Motorpoint car dealers: You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. We must be cautious. My DC2 is a third car that spends a lot of time in the garage connected to a trickle charger. When I don't use it for certain periods of time I think to myself maybe it would be sensible to sell it to someone that'll use it more regulalry.
I had some spare time on Saturday evening so went out for a 50 odd mile drive around some country roads. The sun was starting to set and within a couple of minutes I fall back in love with the way it makes you feel when driving it. Because of the nature of the engine, people might think you're trying to race them, but the engine was designed to rev. There is something so satisfying about letting the engine sing to the red line whilst grabbing the next gear before the engine drops out of the power band. That's a level of driver involvement no auto will ever provide. When I arrived back home, I can't help but think 'what was I thinking selling it'.
It's a truly special car built at a time when engineers had a greater say over the bean counters and Honda developed cars to be the best they could be.

Ive had mine for 7 years now and Im never going to sell it. Ive driven many faster cars but nothing comes close to providing the types of thrills this can.
Mine is a UK car but as soon as you throw away the ridiculous UK spec manifold and exhaust system and fit the Jap equivalent along with a Mugen intake it transforms it and pulls much, much harder.

Why does PH keep doing this to me???
Still regret selling mine (2nd one) earlier this year...genuinely the most fun and involving car I've driven this side of a Caterham, and that possibly includes 2 Elises and a VX220 (all driven not owned though...suspect the Hethel stuff would be growers).
It's not just the powertrain (the diff is hilarious fun) or the control weights and feedback, it's the lack of weight, and the positive impact that has on the ride and the agility. Everything modern is just so sanitised in comparison.
PS - otolith - true

Brilliant, brilliant cars. I'm still searching for the RWD equivalent. Anyone found that yet?
S2000 or RX8 (R3 or PZ models mainly). My DC2 was also my first car. I really adored it. People who know about cars always ask questions and smile when they see it. People who don't know about cars call you a boy racer but who cares.
Mine had to go due to the rust on the way and the constant garage visits for replacing tired parts. If I'd been living in a house and had the garage space I'd have kept it.
The GT86 reminds of it in so many ways. I just wish it sounded as good.

Why ?
"Red seats""Massive wing"
"People racing at lights"
"More banzai"
Where's the information on what it's like to drive, own and run? It seems very non PH-like.
The wing is factually massive, OE.
Some people do race at lights, usually in crap car, which is annoying and childish.
More banzai : OK, a little puerile. But what is very PH-like is to always criticise and see the negatives everywhere, which is a shame sometimes.
Lovely motor, still contemplating delving into one of these next year...but then the other option is a B10 Alpina.
Anyhow, I digress, note to author....i'd go and check out an S2000 after this. All the Vtec goodness but in a RWD, loved the time with mine and still regret PX'ing it.
Once you've enjoyed the S2000 then head to the Kraut cars!
PS my S2000 suffered from rust on the back arches, hereditary in Honda's of a certain age.

A fairly brilliant first car!
I am a DC5 owner, and yes, the DC2 is a more raw ride, but the DC5 is a much better looker, but both amazing cars. So good I tracked my old DC5 down and bought it back a couple of years ago. Will never sell again. I have been in some fantastic cars, but I never get a bigger smile on my face than when I am out on the open roads in VTEC.

lets not forget that being a first car he'll have little basis of comparison too (presumably) but this is PH and is full of negative crap. The wing is factually massive, OE.

GT86 - lightweightish, coupe, naff fake carbon interior, LSD, highish revving NA, fairly similar cost as the DC2 when it was new (my DC2 cost its original owner 23k).

If the Toyota had a high revving engine, I'd agree, but the boxer is the weak point in the whole package IMO. Not particularly powerful, not particularly torquey, not particularly high revving, not particularly nice sounding, it's just a bit of a "meh" engine. My DC2 was also my first car. I really adored it. At least with the Honda and Mazda, you get 9000 or 9300rpm to play with!
Utterly wonderful cars. My wife had hers for about 3.5 years, we did 40k in it.
Did her daily drive duties, holidays, track days, MTB trips, engine hauling, log carrying, house moving, and all it ever needed was regular maintenance.
Worst thing about them is that they goad you to drive them hard - they can feel a little inert at low effort, but get them on the boil and start hurling them around, and the chassis and engine package is so rewarding, it's hard to think how it could be bettered. One of the only cars we've had I've not felt the need to modify - partly because everything is so well set up, and partly because there's not much headroom in it anyways!
Adjustability on the limit is just brilliant, the LSD and chassis balance almost makes it feel as if it's driven from somewhere in the middle.
We only sold it as we needed a 4 door to ease my wife's back for getting the little guy in and out. And DB8's are horrendously ugly! Genuinely, properly sad to see it go - my wife cried as it was driven off!
A real high point in Honda's history - a proper Type R.

Yes the engine isn't exciting like the B18C but it's still a nice piece of engineering. The low CoG is a big part of the car. I wish there was a hardcore, stripped out version of it in the UK with a screaming engine!
Give it time - once forged pistons/cranks come about there should be some higher-revving N/A builds within reach.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
