I knew it needed doing when I took it in this morning but he phoned me an hour later to tell me the bumper needed to come off etc,
I'm cynical because I presume he knew the bumper needed to come off so why not tell me when I was in front if him just an hour previously.

They've done it
Yup.

Take the freebie smile
Maybe I’m just extra cynical, but maybe they haven’t done it?

Maybe it didn’t need done, they fancied charging him for it, and are now back-pedalling because when he comes to pick up his car with its blown bulb, he’ll notice there’s actually nothing wrong with it, and know that they were trying it on.

So now they want to do it extra cheap/free, so he doesn’t realise?
I think you're cynical... but you may be correct.
That is very cynical, but scarily true.

OP just say no.

I'm in the dealership now,
Will be presented with my bill in the next 5 minutes,
At 10 am thus morning I was told 235 plus vat plus what I presumed a few quid for a bulb.
So any guesses as to my final bill ?
I refused the superdooper wash at 20 quid and gratefully accepted the complimentary one

Ill kick off the guess at 310 inc vat

thats bugger all - my sister (who knew no better ) was charged £80 just to change a brake light bulb in her passat a number of years ago by a VW main dealer in London whilst it was in for full service - no dodgy access issues either - it was 5 min job!

National Tyres would have done that for you with the same oil for well under £100.

I recently replaced the front bumper on my golf and had to re-use the fog lights.

As I was happily removing the fog lights from the original VW bumper I suddenly realised that if a bulb had gone (unlikely in a fog light I know) I also would have needed to remove the bumper to replace it.

Basically things like this look like a designed in license to print money.

Also Halfords are running a "we'll fit new bulbs for £6" promotion, take it there and watch them stutter for a while haha.

Unsurprisingly, they have a list of exclusions. Guess what cars are in there smile

I agree with all 3 of the last comment, I was nearly bent over, yes they've replaced it and yes I nearly was conned.

Estate agents and parking wardens have IMO been replaced by [b] vets [b/] and service personnel at dealerships as britains most disliked people at work. C u nxt Tuesday's
I suggested on the all creature great and small section that perhaps, just perhaps vets were more concerned about charging as much as they possibly could for treatment and was subjected to all sorts of horrid names. I really didn't think professional people knew such words

There you go. Far more accurate.

if that is genuinely the case (that the bumper needs to come off), i can't see what the problem is.

you are running a fairly recent 7-series which you are putting through main-stealer servicing at their widely publicised labour rates (they have to pay for their flash dealerships, complimentary posh coffees and £150k per annum salaries for service managers somehow).

the fact that they can get the bumper off, fit a new bulb and then get it refitted within within an hour is commendable.

lol
Ha ha. You said recent. Recent is no more than 3 years but I'm nit picking. Nice car, let down by the dealers. Shameful.

If t's the Angel Eye bulb then it's a bh to do; I had the same quandary when I was quoted about the same.

It is a bumper off job.....

Isn't it actually illegal in some countries to be without spare bulbs? If so, why permit cars that need a mechanic and a workshop to fit the bulbs?
