Come on guys, leave the poor bloke alone. He's said above that if he didnt have to do as many miles, then he would have a V8!

Now that would be an achievement.

It was the "she's still delivering...." that threw me off.

I'm less impressed with the 147,000 mileage now I know what it is, it's only just a baby, the body will rust away on that before the mechanical bits die ;-)

She's not too bad.

It's there but you've got to look for it.

For all the people being deliberately awkward about it being a diesel...

Last time I checked, the site was called "Pistonheads", not "Petrolheads".

It was going to be petrolheads IIRC but there were copy-write issues and thus it became Pistonheads.

Regardless, a diesel can be a superb thing

Confirmation, as if it were needed, that there are diesel-bores on PH. rolleyes
Well it makes a change from all the petrol bores and their sheep like bleating "tractor noise" "what use is torque" etc etc.

Who did your dash pixels?

My Golden chariot has slowly been losing hers over the last few years, not many left now. The characters are unreadable.

You're only just behind on miles, ours has 155k on it, and the V8 is still silky smooth.

It's funny but I've never ever referred to a car as a 'she', it does make me chuckle when people do it!

Was I the only one who saw 'She's still got it' along with '3.2 litre straight 6' and a picture of a speedo loading up, expecting to see an M3 speedo wound round to 155mph only to be vastly disappointed to find I'd missed the word diesel, and it was in fact a Merc needle at precisely the opposite end of the clock?

I agree a diesel can be a superb thing...............in a Tractor a Lorry or a Dumper truck...........

Diesel cars are more efficient but they are more expensive to buy in the first place, they not as reliable, diesel is more expensive than Petrol...and when you lift that bonnet they ALL sound like a bag of st oh and they ALL stink like fk when one is in front of you.

Cool. So don't buy one - and ignore any diesel threads on PH.

5 cylinder and above diesels sound ok, yes they sound quite agricultural at idle, but as a country boy I find that quite charming. For a time after my parent's divorce we lived in a rented farm holiday let, and whenever I heard a 6 cylinder diesel I wasn't sure whether it was the tractor, or my dad's 325 tds.

Ignore him. 3 posts in the last 30 days all slagging off diesels.

I'd say that your diesel is probably just about run in wink

My E46 320d was achieving its book figure (*47mpg combined) at 150,000 miles without any kind of special, or clever, driving. It would regularly do nearer 60mpg on a longish drive.

I just found the car to be soulless and no fun so had to go back to petrol.

My 2005 Mercedes OBC was 10% optimistic when I checked it manually, so 50mpg would be about 45mpg real.

Interestingly (ok, not very), my 2009 Mercedes OBC is absolutely spot on!

Shamefull, truly WTF has happened to the world.
I know, but 40k per annum in a 4.0 v8 is not really affordable.
It is with a gas conversion!

In all fairness Ive nothing against diesels especially 6 cylinder ones, they have their place in the world and you get points back for it being an estate and JRG.

However, starting a thread boasting of your cars supreme diesel fuel economy is like pulling a minger then filming it for posterity!
