Isn't he still a major shareholder at Morgan? If so, then it doesn't seem like good business sense...

Ignoring the usual PH keyboard warrior cynicism, this is the major point, I would imagine his wealth is tied up in his stake in Morgan.

Maybe they are buying him out?

"Wealth" begs the question what shares in Morgan would actually be worth on the open market. I suspect, as is often the case with a private company, the answer may be "very little". Very often any value amounts to just,
  • The ongoing dividend stream, and
  • Any major properties owned.
What I'm saying is that a handful of enthusiasts don't generate much "goodwill" or "brand value".

Oh I don't know. I can think of a few Private Equity chaps who would like to get hold of the company and have a play with it.

It's all about barriers to trade, and brand. There are NO significant barriers (A few million perhaps) to building a low volume car, so really it's all about brand. And it is possible to create a brand. Ref Atom ?

If this story is even true, I can't see why he would want the bother and stress at his age.

If he was thirty years younger maybe.

I actually think Charles comes across as a decent bloke, I hope things work out OK for him.
