At every Tesco fuel station, on every individual pump. Yeah sure they do.

Tesco have been done before.

Sadly the number of routine inspections done by Trading Standards is nosediving.

I've had this happen to me before, twice at the same store!!! Both times was at a pay at pump, very early in the morning.
First time I did'nt really twig what had happened but the brain said something wasn't right. Never took it any further as then thought I had imagined it!....A few months later at silly o'clock in the morning at the same pump, the same thing happened. The pump clocked up about 20p before there was any sign of fuel coming out. How do I know this I hear you ask.....I had not put the nozzel completely into the tank so I could see the end!!!

I complained to the store manager who was very appologetic, but insisted this could not happen. When I suggested she look at the CCTV of me with the nozzel not completely in the tank and no petrol coming out, then deliberatly pointing at the total on the pump, then pointing at the CCTV camera and back to the pump......she compensated me £5 on the spot with no issue at all. I also mentioned the local price fixing of petrol the 3 stations do every morning. That did'nt go down well either, esp as I told her how they do it!!! Strangly she didn't respond to this!

I'm sure this has happened to me before at this station, but never realised.

I suggest before people are quick to judge the OP, check next time you fill up, you might have a shock.

For a couple of months last year, one pump at a local Tesco would pump before the counters reset. So you had a few seconds of fuel going in before the numbers started ticking by.

As for the furniture comments, wasn't just Tesco was it? It was most retail stores including Argos

All of your cars in your garage are fairly modern, and so will have a little flap that pushes open when you push the pump in so if you were able to see the end of the nozzle then as soon as fuel started coming out (very quickly after only 20p of counting) fuel will have spilt everywhere. It would have taken less than a second to get to 20p, so there is literally no way you looked at the camera, looked at the pump etc to highligh the lack of fuel.

I don't usually call people on BS as it seems a waste of time on PH but this storey is so obviously not true it's just weird. Why make something like this up? What have you acheived by doing so? I don't get it.

I would be more concerned about the diluted piss coming out of the tesco pumps rather than the lost 10p

Yes cars are modern & yes they have a flap, but if you just nudge the flap and angle the nozel right you can still see the end of the nozel fella, and therefore not see any fuel, or hear it wink Think I know my own cars wink!!! Combine this with the fact that I didn't just pull the lever for full bore fill up as wanted to see if it happened again so went for the trickle approach, stopped at 20p no fuel by then, but could feel the fuel coming, did my pointing, then continued to fill up, then went straight into the store to complain. If the actual petrol station had been open and staffed I would not have continued to fill up but it wasn't. I think the fact the store manager giving me a £5 voucher with little fuss probably says more maybe!

Personally I don't give a rats ar5e whether you think this is BS or not and I have far better things to do with my time than type BS up here for people to read just for a laughtype. It happened to me (twice) and it happened to the OP too, it would appear to have happened to others. Maybe it's happened to you too, I really don't care!! Maybe we should all pay a little more attention when we fill up next time....now theres a thoughtidea

jesus its 10/20P thats like 0.002 % of the cost of filling your car...

Do you realise how small amount of petrol you actually get for 10/20p, there is probably about that much still in the hose from the last person.

I think if i was said manager above, i would tell you where to go!

Infact even if they were doing it as a scam, say 1 million customers, that would only be £100K thats pocket change to someone like tesco.
The bad publicity when it were to get out would cost millions!

Benefit of the doubt...

Maybe the person before you lifted the hose and got all the dregs out when they filled up, therefore your first 20p filled the hose back up before it came out the end. To solve, do the same when you finish filling.

With the fuel economy you must get from your Lambo I wouldn't have thought you'd worry about 20p though.

The OP has made a good point, and the sheer amount of 'negative' comments thereafter would suggest we get the shops we deserve, because most people take everything at face value.

Also, how do we know that 'Super Unleaded' petrol is not just 'normal' unleaded, at any petrol station, either through human error or a scam with the retailer/owner. Just badge it as Super Unleaded and increase your profit margin…

If none of this happened, we wouldn't need Trading Standards or complaints departments, or courts etc, would we?

For example, why are bags of crisps so massive compared to the contents inside? Burgers that look nothing like the big colourful photos on the menu? LOw fat? Low salt? Horsemeat? BSE?

We are being ripped off everywhere we go, anyone who says otherwise is a fool.

Well done OP for actually noticing and the other people who have said similar things. Not just me who kicks up a fuss.
Reminds me of when I posted here about my car being repaired badly (via insurance as was hit by another car) and the repairer did an awful job as well as using my car as a mobile entertainment centre. I thought I might be doing someone else a favour highlighting some of the events that went on, but the majority of replies were that I was fussy, or things that went on (and documented in photographs) just didn't happen…

It's more the fact that something is instantly labelled as "OMG SCAM SCAM SCAM COMPO COMPO COMPO" when it might just be an isolated local fault that is yet to be reported / picked up.

HustleRussell, it’s not BS. Take it or leave it mate. I don’t care. You try it next time and see what you think.

R1 Indy, yes it’s only 10p/20p…......so, every time you go to fill your car up, take a 10p or 20p out of your pocket and leave it on the pump. See how long it would take you to be rather annoyed at doing this. It’s not the 10/20p that I had the issue with FFS! As you rightly point out its F’all when filling up £80/£90 of fuel for a nearly empty S6…...its the principle!

If said store has an offer on something you regularly buy, do you want to receive the offer (BOGOF / 20p off / Half price) etc….I think we all would. You wouldn’t turn round at the tills and say keep the free one, or here is the full price for that item wink.

Chris, thank you. You could be right on the petrol in the hose left/drained by previous customer. Unless there is a problem with their pumps, it could be a logical answer granted. And your right, it wasn’t about the 20p!! (I mean really the Lambo is a 100ltr tank!)

If these issues/problems aren’t pointed out to the companies concerned then they might never know there is a problem and/or falling short legally on weights & measures etc. I wasn't suggesting they were willingly ripping people off.

For what it’s worth, I did say to the manager when she offered the £5 voucher that I didn’t want any compo for 20p, that’s just ridiculous….I was telling her for information purposes. What she did with that info is up to her!!!

Price fixing or price matching?

One is a very serious allegation, one is market forces.

Think that should be 0.2%, unless it costs 5-10 thousand pounds to fill up whatever you're driving...
