Who works in the car industry?

Powertrain design. I like it a lot, but then I was quite happy designing pipes for oil rigs.
Loving the end product is worth a few percent of job satisfaction, but as most of the jobs are designing something tedious to fit in something tedious it really helps to love the actual job rather than the end product.
I do get a rediculous hit of pride when something I've worked on drives past, and I have to resist buying unsuitable sheds just because I designed the cylinder head or something.
My proudest moment is when there was a close up of a part I'd developed for my first project after uni featured on the cinema advert for car it was going in. I was at the cinema with my mates & this was just before the car had launched. I test and develop infotainment systems for a global Tier 1, it was my first job out of uni and I'm still enjoying it.
Any hints who to contact JLR are hiring but are the wrong side of Birmingham - unless the jobs are Castle Brom or the new Engine plant.Engineer1 said:
I suspect I'm up for redundancy - I've got an MSc is Automotive Engineering from Coventry but not done any technical engineering in a while (ended up a cad jockey / monkey) how hard should it be to get into am Automotive role tier 1 or OEM?
Probably not too difficult.Engineer1 said:

When you say wrong side of Birmingham what do you mean? Castle Brom is the opposite side of Birmingham to the new engine plant in Wolverhampton.I work at the new engine plant as a reliability and maintenance engineer so if you have any questions, let me know.
I'm a vehicle evaluation and development engineer. My job involves evaluating pretty much all aspects of vehicle performance, and developing vehicles during the prototype phase to ensure the end product is as good as it can be.
A lot of my driving is on test tracks, but being paid to drive some fantastic cars on the best roads in Europe and around the world is a dream job for me.

Define car industry?
Anything to do with cars. Writing, racing, building, selling, whatever takes your pickle. I guess it's a bit vague Engineer1 said:

Area Sales Manager for a manufacturer. Previously a Product Manager for Renault UK, and in the dim and distance past, a shiny suited sales man.
You do realise that makes you a 'failed car salesman' though? Pesty said:
I've worked for TRW on EPAS and Denso on air con.
Was boring
I worked on the QFD1 team that Lucas Car Braking ran at Fen End in the early 90's on the EPAS prototype project. Was boring
IIRC They were told by Ford that 'no small car needs power steering' and by Rover that "If you can do it for £100, we might be interested" or vice versa.........Didn't TRW buy that bit of Lucas when it was chopped up in the late 90's....so I guess I was there at the start.
