Danny is right, the B1135 is great. I take my exige along there to my office (at the hethel engineering centre) once a week and I wish it would go on for a few more miles.

My S1 running Nitrons is beautifully progressive, little lift off oversteer yet will power oversteer very easily. Early cars on standard geometry settings and Pirelli rubber may have been twitchy, however with Yokohama Advan LTS spec tyres and a proper geo, they are so friendly at the limit...Stunning cars IMO.

Could you define what you mean by "nicer" please? At least it isn't a 4 cylinder turbo, we know you don't like them!

Maybe he meant 'more reliable' engines.

Not many that sound nicer than a K in VHPD tune:

But the K-series is a reliable engine. People complain about the HGF but in reality if you let the car warm up properly and keep an eye on fluids etc it really isn't an issue, and if you detect a problem it is not an expensive gasket to replace.

Fair enough, with a sports cat and decent exhaust they can sound pretty good for a 4 cylinder (especially with VVC), the cat gave my car a lot more depth to the sound and the Janspeed exhaust gave it a nice almost howl as it went through the rev range. I drove a standard car and it did sound a bit like a sewing machine!

Incidentally, I agree that BMW I6's can sound pretty good, but trackside at Combe I did think at times it sounded very gravelly and actually quite unpleasant at times. This was in an M3.

IMO a Honda VTEC is a lot more aggressive and better sounding that any BMW 6. All depends on where you priorities lie. I look for steering and handling finesse above all else and in that respect, the S1 Elise is truly stunning.

Try it! I drove a 1994 Mondeo with no power steering after it broke, bit of a work out at low speeds but I quite liked it once up to speed.

Like most things in life, it's subjective. I really don't get why people sport a stiffy over the sound of an M3 or a Boxster. I used to have a Boxster S and at the same point in my life my then mrs had an E46 M3. Neither sounded remarkable IMO. Neither have any of the Lotuses I have had. The only car that really added something to the mix with it's sound were my TVRs. I certainly wouldn't have given consideration to the aural pleasure of any car in deciding whether I wanted to buy one. But hey, that's me.

You need to go in a well worn in 8v 944 with a Dansk exhaust! I honestly have never heard a 4 pot that sounds as good as mine on full chat between 3rd to 4th smile

As for Matt - yeah he is the don! It is not as easy as he makes it look haha.

His approval makes it worth it (and trust me - i know how little run off 'zero' means on that hairpin!)

One man's meat is another's poison and all that. The Porker sound does nothing for me at all. A mate of mine has a GT2 as a track toy and a while back had a 997 Turbo as his daily drive. Neither of them made a noise that was particularly exciting to my ears. His 430 Scud and 458 on the other hand...now they make a stiffy inducing noise. Even then though, to my missus' ears they sound ridiculous and when he dropped me off after we had hammered through a few tunnels on the approach to my place, the g/f commented that us "children had been making daft noises" as I walked through the front door.

Love it. She probably thought that by saying it you would feel in some way ashamed, but I bet the reality is that you felt as if she had just put a medal around your neck!

However, the Police know this and often sit in wait. I got done there 6 years ago or so in a diesel 306 of all cars!

So, beware all.

Doubtless Matt is a very skilled driver but I really don't get people fawning in response to that video. Just a few very straight forward 2nd gear skids, it hardly takes a virtuoso to do that.
