aaah the 'extras' in the background aren't mine... sadly...
But the Cobra beauty is now number 5 in our family of vehicles.... none quite as exciting as her though!
We bought her from Dublin... and the prev owner is a bit of a petrol head too... and a collector of beauties.
Cant believe we own her now!!!!! She is a 'surprise' for my Old Dad when he comes to stay next month! His hire car for the duration!!!!

See what the original Plate was when the car was registered here - if it was a Q plate you will not be able to change it - I'm guessing if it has a pre 73 reg date it probably took the identity of the donor car so it won't be an issue but you never know
Very sensible advice. To use a black and white registration legally, it will need to be registered as the donor car and with far fewer rules at the time, a good chance it was. If the original plates have not been re-used, DVLC should put it back to them and thus a simpler result.Slidingpillar said:

She is registered as a Rover (the Donor car) in 1970... and I do have the original numberplate written down.. so expect DVLA can revert us to that
I would like a private plate for her though.. but still researching how that all works.
Seems I specifically need what is called a SUFFIX plate...
Not sure they are very widely available!!!
Anyhow.. its not a race to the grave... she will receive lots of enhancements and improvements

Pre-63, plates had no age identifier, and up to three letters/three digits or four digits/two letters, either way round.I would like a private plate for her though.. but still researching how that all works.

AB1234
1234AB
ABC123
123ABC etc
63-on, ABC123A, where the last letter is a year marker. You can ONLY use up to 1970 (H or J, depending on when in the year) plates on your Cobra. Anything newer than that is newer than the identity of the car, so can't be used. That includes all A123ABC (83-on) and AB12CDE (01-on) plates.
But that's nothing to do with whether you use silver-on-black or black-on-reflective plates.

Any registration plate supplier will have a selection of 'em.nosha123 said:

Is it OK that it's registered as a Rover? I thought the DVLA didn't allow that? So can I buy a 1989 MX5 and build it into a Westfield, but leave it registered as an MX5?I would like a private plate for her though.. but still researching how that all works.

all kit cars derive from Donor cars... for the pure and simple fact they are KIT cars.. so a real Heinz 57 of parts!
True.... But when I had a Westfield it was registered as a Westfield... Not a Ford Escort, which provided the Donor car. I thought a kit car had to be registered as the kit make, not the donor car?Somone will be along soon and put me right, that's what's great about forums!
Great car!
