Has breakdown cover cost increased?
Discussion
I've used these guys for the last 3 years on 3-4 cars.
Only called them out twice but quick and efficient both times.

Just had the usual farcical annual call with the AA. Renewal price is about double what I paid last year, and more than double what a new customer would pay. (I've been with them 7 yrs). Really arrogant guy said that "it isn't fair on the AA to have to give me new customer prices - they are an enticement for new business and everyone knows they can't get those prices every year".
Not fair on the AA? Yeah, whatever. He carried on waffling for a bit but I'd switched off at that point, and asked him to cancel my renewal and I will go elsewhere.

Hi Sir Bagalot - what site was that deal on please? I am about to reject my AA renewal because of their usual annoying ripoff tactics towards existing members, and your deal sounds exactly what I would like to pay instead!
Through Quidco.Read the T&C's very carefully.
Prices on the main websites are for new customers only, they do state if renewing to call. They probably aren't super strict on this, but.... if you go through a cashbak site then I can see them disallowing the cashback as you haven't met all T&C's. RAC see you as a renewal customer until three months after your membership expired.
I simply move annually between RAC and AA
i managed to talk my rac renewal down last year, thats ok till i had a problem with a trailer, then found out it wasnt now covered, read the fine print, ask questions, get everything clear dont take anything for granted. i was surprised recovery was only 10 miles from home unless you paid more. they will screw as much as possible out of you. geof

Similarly the 1 Vehicle Roadside Rescue with the rac is 27.99.http://www.rac.co.uk/breakdown-cover?WT.ac=MainNav...
Well got my AA stuff in. With Roadside, Relay, Homestart and membership for Lady B the cost is £251.67.
I receive a £86.68 introductory discount taking it down to £164.99, and as stated before I'm also getting cashback and a free MOT.
If they think I'm paying £251.67 next year to renew then they're ever so slightly mistaken.

They will support uk based residents?
You need the Plus membership option to get the pan-european coverage. The basic level is Germany only.Assistance in the UK is sub-contracted to the AA.
Was just thinking about this myself. New car comes with Ford assistance. Our old car has nothing now.
Who offers the best 'get you home' policy without a surcharge?
It's to cover an old 190000 mile Astra. I wouldn't be interested in recovery to a garage as it wouldn't be worth spending the money on if the gearbox or something went on it. Just something where I can have the car and passengers recovered home.
Brittannia UK recovery seems to fit the bill?

Just signed up the OH for RAC roadside.
£27.99 for one car cover minus £12.62 at topcashback.
£15.37 for a year's breakdown cover is an absolute no brainer!

A couple of Euro trips a year and an all-in package will start to look more appealing.
