RE: Audi RS3 pricing confirmed
Discussion
One good thing with this lump is its massively tuneable (well the last revision was) Friends TTRS had 600bhp and was mental.
A stage 1 map on the TTRS gave 410bhp/400lbft (from 335bhp/332lbft) revo stage 3 is 500bhp and 465lbft. (bolt on turbo, intercooler and exhaust) Still on standard internals.
I doubt the 2.3 RS lump will give those sorts of gains (or noise) for the same cost layout.

What kind of person dumps £40k on an RS3 or AMG45? I just don't get it, unless it's there to satiate a lease market and, later on, the second hand market?
Just seems like a completely uninspired purchase to me.
I nearly did, on the A45. Then I drove it. Uninspiring is a good word. How something so fast could also be so uninvolving and borderline boring is a miracle of engineering.Just seems like a completely uninspired purchase to me.

Sweet jesus! £40k? F**k off, Audi!
wait till you spec this lot - Audi magnetic ride, RS-specific
- Front Ceramic brakes (USP)
- Red brake callipers
- Matt silver trim on bumpers
- Wider front tyres (£1500 on last one)
- RS sport exhaust system
- RS Bucket Seats (3k i think last time)
Then add 3-4k for a custom colour

Oh god, here come the remap quoters.
Because nobody tunes their cars on here... Just pointing out you get a lot more engine for your money. The RS is cheap because it is cheap. I think the engine block is older than some people on here.Point to add I wouldnt pay that much for a hatchback. Both the AMG45 or Audi would only be in my garage as a shopping trolley if I won the euro millions and I didn't want to risk my P1 getting scratched.

Given that most of these will be bought on lease? Very risky. I remember someone on the Leon forums being forced to buy his leased Cupra because it blew an engine and was found to have a Revo map. So he had to pay over £10k straight away to the finance company and was still left with no warranty and a broken car.Edited by Ali_T on Friday 13th February 13:43

I wonder if they'll offer it as a saloon? That'd be my ideal Audi (and I'm not an Audi fanboy).
Agree. I've seen a few saloons around recently (all 2.0 tdi S-lines to note) and they remind me of the much prettier, well if I can say that, B7 A4 which I think looks much better than the current A4.Much prefer it over the hatch.
For the price it's disappointing that it doesn't have more power as standard - I'd expect 380 or maybe even 400bhp. The engine unit is well capable of it.
Seems to me that the S3 is much better VFM (looking at a few brokers, seems like you can pick a brand new S3 sportback with S-tronic for around the 30k mark) though maybe discounts will be available on this too.

that's the single biggest thing that puts me off, that engine de-restricted runs at 400-410bhp but because it would be faster on the QTR than the RS4 marketing reduces the power given the price of the competition it should have had 400bhp IMO

As a car for all occasions, this might be a blinder.
Let's just hope it drives and rides better than the last one. If it does, I'll be tempted.

I if it is lively and provides real feedback and feel, Audi could be onto a good thing and would be that much closer to justifying the price tag.
Lets hope it's good, no lets hope it is excellent and that it will bring life back into the market.
You can't really knock it until you have tried it
