It says that they are actually amber lights, although they appear to have a blue crown which is intended to make them look like 'blue lights', which certainly used to be illegal, as did the word POLICE, whether its retro-reflective or not.

That's a brave move but I like it and expect it does generate quite a reaction from those with a slightly nervous/guilty side to them!

a chap down the road from me has a Soarer wrapped up like a police car which is always amusing to see driven about.
I really like that.

See, this one doesn't have Police written on it anywhere.

Seen this around quite a lot recently, being local.

Definitely has a shock factor when you first see it! I was surprised she was allowed to drive it on the road considering it has 'Police' written on it and has a full light bar.

When I lived in Birmingham 25 years ago someone just near me had the spitting image of the Bluesmobile, right down to the missing-lettered "DO GE" lettering at the rear.

Didn't have the huge roof-mounted speaker, but apart from that was an exact copy of the '74 Monaco.

I think it should be illegal. Even parking a white van on a motorway bridge should be illegal grumpy

What about that car would make you think it was a police car when you were driving? You don't look out for cars with POLICE written on them, you spot liveries. You'd disregard this immediately.

These, though? These should be fking illegal.

With regard to the horse riders: do people think (this is a question all by itself) that the horse riders are militant and want to pretend to be police officers, or are they desperately trying to slow puce-faced imbeciles down sufficiently in order for them to be able to safely ride on the road, which they have just as much place using as car drivers?

For the hard of thinking who populate these threads: if people, didn't act like s around them then theyd be wearing fluorescent belt and little else.

To be enraged by this, as many appear to be, identifies you as a fool. Youd be better of taking the bus, but in the mean time try working it out.

So why design a safety jacket with identical police lettering and battenbergs if not to provoke an initial reaction to the public? Out of all the possible combinations they could use that are just as noticeable?

Why use POLITE and not SLOW or WARNING or HORSES?

Much as I'd like to dispute horse-riders having "as much place as car drivers" on the road, despite being there as a hobby while most car drivers are by necessity, let's leave that aside, along with the name-calling.

I have absolutely no problem with horse riders wearing hi-vis equipment or doing anything else reasonable to attract the attention of drivers in good time. There are a lot of horse riders around my way, and I always treat them with respect. It seems they agree, as they always thank me as I pass. I have a distinct objection to impersonating a police officer, as does the law.

Do you not think the sort of individual who decides "I know, I'll illegally dress myself up looking like a copper and THAT will scare people into slowing down" really is quite militant? It attracts attention no better than any other hi-vis, as the police markings aren't visible from so far away, so I see no advantage from a safety point of view. The only benefit I can see is that some car drivers who don't get the chance to read it properly might be scared about getting a ticket if they do anything silly. As if that's the primary concern when driving around horses...

This is likely to be evolution in action. Presumably without the police-like markings, people in cars didn't pay any attention, and just drove past them with horns blaring and engine revving, giving them the evil eye and the middle finger, and yelling that they don't pay road tax?

You shouldn't underestimate how angry some people will get when they're held up for 20 seconds.

Yes it is ugly and probably a terrible car. But it is also a little bit of fun. I can't imagine many mothers willing to drive that car, which leads me to the idea that she's probably not a complete bh...
