Design wise, CLA SB is better resolved than CLS SB

Looks handsome.

It's not just the shape in silhouette that is pleasing; the character lines and the overall design are well resolved.

Related topic: years after the dust-up over design at BMW, there's still much to discuss about the influence / evolution of "flame surfacing" across the industry.

Mmmmm I wonder... a CLA45 AMG with some kit in it £54k or a C63 AMG Estate with no extras needed for £59k.

Totally overpriced.

A no brainer.
That does put it in perspective.

Sort of. £50k will get you a big chunk of the options list except for the CF interior and exterior trim. Brokers are offering about 10% off list. That gets you to £45k.

£45k vs £59k is a much bigger difference.

Maybe I'm daft then. Have a loan of the saloon this weekend with a view to ordering one of these in the new couple of weeks.
No offence. Its ste. Try something better........ Focus ST will feel much better. My mrs had the saloon on a weekend trial it was utterly dire. She was heartbroken as she really wanted it but just couldn't live with its extended list of shortcomings.
My own opinion is that if it had any other badge on it folks would piss themselves laughing.....

Interested to hear what the shortcomings were. I agree some of the trim is a bit low-rent in places, but I had a 90 minute test drive last summer and was quite impressed. Steering was nicer than an M135i, and the power and traction were addictive. Pleased to hear that the estate has been softened up a little though.
Oh where to start

Dash quality of 1980s Amstrad midi system
Sat nav screen nailed on by a censored
Scattered, illogical switchgear
Gruff noisy engine
Cramped claustrophobic dark cabin
godawful auto transmission constantly hunting for gears
Rode with the comfort of a pogo stick on cobbles

Oh and its pig ugly........... She tried a CLA220CDi AMG

She had it for a weekend trial, used it for a 100 miles, cried with disappointment then left it parked up for the remainder of the weekend. The Accord iDTEC she had at the time was a superior car in every way. She eventually plumped for the Lexus IS300h which is kinder on the spine, ears and wallet

ETA

Derogatory word censored.

It looks to short, or maybe too thick set to do the shooting brake thing. The CLS shooting brake works better.

CLA45 with 2 litre turbo (360hp, 4.8 0 to 60) or C450 AMG with 3 litre twin turbo V6 (367hp, 5.0 0 to 60)? I can't see why you would choose the CLA45, buyers for this vehicle aren't going to be too fussed about the CO2 (20 in favour of the CLA45) or fuel economy (which will be much the same when ragging it). If you need a practical smallish Merc surely the C class will win out, price must be in the same ballpark for the C450 to be competitive with the S4.

The figures are impressive but I can't imagine anything nice about living with that engine when you're not thrashing it.

The rear looks a bit sat-on. It wouldn't be a car I'd walk away from and look back in pride.

I drove an CLA45 AMG and really liked it, but I couldn't like with the off styling and the silly shaped boot opening.

If I was buying now, i'd consider one of these, but only with a big discount, or a spectacular finance deal.

For that money I would buy anything else really. This is a particularly ugly and pointless car that serves no purpose other than M-B ticking a box in a made-up segment of the market.
