Are matrix signs deliberately useless?
Discussion
I forgot one that really boiled my piss last week - coming home westbound around 10pm along the A14 to find it was shut for roadworks from Junction 2 to Catthorpe. First sign that mentioned this? At Junction 4. If it'd been signposted earlier I could have come off at J13 and gone A45/M1. As it was I had to blunder round the Leicestershire countryside for half an hour.

'SPRAY SLOW DOWN' when it stopped raining four hours ago. Total white elephant.
When did you last see that one, i was under the impression it was canned off a long time ago for the reasons you mention and even the billions of terminally stupid 'driving' on our motorways 'should' be able to work that out.The problem is they try and work to the lowest, thickest common denominator and that is some task
There's a succession of 3 of those stupid signs on my way to work via the M1. Most days they all say "CHECK YOUR FUEL LEVEL"
Thank you, captain obvious. Really useful, since it's at least 15 miles until the next motorway junction / services. Not that I'd fking drive down the M1 without sufficient fuel in the first place.

The ones i have come to hate the most are the keep left unless over taking signs.
You would have thought such a sign would be a good reminder to the middle lane morons to use the inside lane, but a few conversations with some of these simple minded folk has revealed some of them honestly don't think that you are meant to, and these signs actually serve to reinforce thier opinion that it's perfectly reasonable to sit in the middle lane all of the time, or why would they some times need to put up the signs telling you to move over if you were meant to do it anyway.

God, these people are dense.
I agree though in that this message serves no immediate purpose. They are completely ignored by the sheeple. I think it comes down to he sheeple not liking being told what to do, so they dig in and openly defy the signs, blissfully carrying on with their rolling roadblock antics.

You are absolutely right. The matrix people should get your itinerary and only provide information to your specific journey.
They are useless, what use is Delays to anyone. 5 minute delay or 5 hours? 'Delays' = something like an average journey time over the usual of about 10 mins, off the top of my head it then defaults to 'long' or 'severe' delays for delays over half an hour, an RCC bod will be more informed.
If you read the right docs (It is available somewhere).
I've seen things like Long delays A31 after B321 when I'm going down the M23 towards Brighton. After thinking for a while I worked out that this is in the New Forest, west of Southampton, so miles away and if you were heading for the A31 from the M25 you're very unlikely to go down the M23 at all.
I did see one that was correct (but I didn't believe) on the M25 'Pedestrians in road' - usually it means someone's walking on the hard shoulder from their car to a phone, but that day there was a bloke walking between lane 3 and the central crash barriers!

The M3/ M27 ones show "Caution Queue ahead" with a 50 or even 40 limit which is blatantly still on from the previous night's rush hour. Quite a few Saturday mornings dropping the missus to work on a totally empty motorway at 7am with these stupid signs telling me nonsense. Not that anyone obeys the limits these signs suggest anyway and half the time I don't blame them.

'Queue ahead' is usually displayed on my way to work, thus causing a queue as the retards slow down to look for it
Ugh yes this one. Or 'INCIDENT SLOW DOWN' for three junctions and no sign of an incident. There was one in the M1 roadworks that said 'LETS ALL GET HOME SAFELY'. Thanks for the advice champ!
