RE: 10 questions TVR's new bosses must answer
Discussion
How much will it cost? Seems a perfecly reasonable question. ...why can't we get a straight answer? Really you don't know less than a year from launch.....has Gordon not told you how much his bit will cost....oh and Cosworth/ford....no ideas eh?...more questions than answers...what was it Lincoln said.....all of the people some of the time.....
PH should put a slapomter on certain posts so team Porschar can get the full force of the slapomter.
Yar but it
Won't be on time
Will fall apart
Will be 100k plus
The loom won't work because it is not Bosch
Will it have PDK?
I bet the switchgear will be substandard
Does it have four seats?
So rising above that, there are some great quotes:
"why would anyone choose a TVR over them? John Chasey: "Because they're not a TVR" - correct
Pretty impressive but the power to weight ratio is far more critical - correct
And then you'll be able to bring it back and we'll make it even louder, there's no question about that - correct
It does mean footballers' wives can buy Ferraris and drive them down to the supermarket but it doesn't make for the best driving experience - correct
You start with designers who have done that before, you didn't just dream it up in a shed - correct
we will not compromise the first car and pull out something faulty that makes everyone say 'told you - correct
All good then and it will be available at 65K just not at launch. Sensible.

Slippery eels would give a more direct answers than they did.
Agreed, "launch mule will be ready in a month, or maybe two!" superb product planning then, so even at this stage it could take twice as long as they think, bloody hell on that basis you may or may not see an actual car this side of 2025!Whats the actual address of the factory? may struggle to answer that seeing as the race track it was going to be based at was another complete phantom project as well.
I wonder if Gordon and Cosworth are frantically waiting for their initial invoices to be paid.
Can PH Towers clarify Les's answer here:
Les Edgar: "We've already said it's well sub-£100,000, it is sub-£100,000. But the Launch Edition car is going to be special, there will only be 500, it is going to be fully loaded, it is going to cost more. So if anybody thinks they are going to get a car for £55K I'm afraid to disappoint you - you will be able to, but it will be some time before you can do that."
So far everyone is interpreting that as >£100k for the LE. First way I read it was more than the later standard versions, which will be well under £100k. That could mean anything from £60-100k.
Also is the Sagaris price the original 2006 price inflated, non-inflated (unlikely) or what they fetch now ?

As a proper hardened and experienced TVR fanatic, I can genuinely say that I'm excited by this interview.
My first TVR sighting was in the early 80's as a student in Sheffield - a white Taimar with brown model band.
I'd never seen anything like it before.
I had to have one, but didn't have the money (about £4k for a 10 year old 3000M in those days).
Took me until 1987 until I had saved enough money up to get the cheapest car David Gerald had on the forecourt - a 1976 3000M for £3250.
I can still remember the day I went down by train from Sheffield to pick her up, and the breathtaking drive back.
If Les can get TVR back into production and turn out some cheaper entry cars in the next 5 - 10 years, he'll not only have me pressing my nose up against the window of my nearest dealer (many fine hours doing that at the original Harrogate Horseless Carriages on Skipton Road) but also my 2 lads.
We should all be giving Mr Edgar our sincerest support in his quest.

Interesting to hear that there will ultimately be a <£55k version available. That makes it really quite accessible for its likely performance.
The only 55k versions that will be available will be £100k cars that have gone through a hedge backwards and need a rebuild. As per the introduction - how they have the front to not actually unveil anything at the motor show is beyond me - still feels like the "new supercar" spoof press release to me.
If this didnt have the TVR name it'd be laughed off this forum. SniffPetrol supercar 101.
It's like reading a Kickstarter pitch.
Ridiculous, evasive answers offering nothing. Even if I had cash falling out of my anus I'd find better things to spend it on.
And that's from someone who adores TVRs.

Agreed. Again from a tvr owner of 13 years plus. It's like reading a Kickstarter pitch.

The next mule, which is representative of the size and weight with our drivetrain in it, we're probably a month, two months maybe from that.
So, lets say, charitably, they have what looks to be a, single, very early Attribute Prototype (AP) built and running by the Sept this year, that's miles away (for a major OEM, first AP fleet would be ~3 years from SOP as a minimum, even for pretty low volume platforms) from CP or PP level mules. And if they aren't running those levels for validation, what are they validating and how? I rather suspect they will be using their customers for the validation tbh.......I hate to say it, but as they can't even quote prices, how have they done the "business model"?? Surely their backers will have wanted to see the financial and risk projections?
Compare these answers to those given by the last successful two car startups (BAC and Zenos) both run by people who have been deep inside the automotive industry for years, (especially BAC, where Neil was with Ford PD on several major projects)
Whilst i wish them the best of luck, and truly hope they can get a stable/long lived product portfolio developed, i have to say the more i hear, the more i'm worried.......

As has been said if they manage to get their foot in the door and be recognised as an exciting alternative product wouldn't it be wonderful to see them produce a toned down, interesting, great toy for normal bloke to aspire to owning.

That is not how I read it! More like "at some point, many years from now, if we are actually a profitable, viable business, we might make something that costs less than £55k"BJG1 said:

More like "at some point, many years from now, if we are actually a profitable, viable business, we might make something that costs less than £55k"I really hope they pull it off. I had a 400se and a Griff in the past, great cars.I also love Marcos and I hope they don't go down the same road when they tried to bounce back with the TSO, I think they built a handful of prototypes and then folded.
Good luck to TVR there are few countries that can pull this off ,if any ! :-)
