RE: New Megane Renault Sport spy pics
Discussion
I had a nose round the current sporty one the other day and apart from the unnecessary chromey bits i think they look alright in the flesh.
As per their usual form i expect we'll see a slightly underwhelming first effort followed a couple of years later by a much better cup/trophy version

Glad it's a 5 door , appeals to me as I have children to chuck in it , I currently have an older 5 door reanaultsport Megane which I love , but is getting a little long in the tooth , could be a nice upgrade for me
Didn't realise they did a 5dr RS Megane? They certainly don't have any in the classifieds...?jonosterman said:

Definitely a step in the mundane direction for me,
During the early hours this week on the way to work one of these cars made a point in getting past my EP3 on a dual carriage way,
It did say Renault Sport GT on the rear, Never saw one until now and looked rather underwhelming, Let's see what the RS department make of it.

The GT is actually really nice, has the Clio 1.6T engine with 205ps and 6 speed EDC box.During the early hours this week on the way to work one of these cars made a point in getting past my EP3 on a dual carriage way,

They are actually very quick and capable cars, the rally driver who smashed me around the infield track at Millbrook in a LHD one certainly thought so. Scared the crap out of me!

Agreed, looks good as a standard Megane, but if I were to consider buying one it would need to be more focused in design. I'll hang fire for now.stuart_83 said:
Time to buy a 275 with the cup chassis and hold onto it ...
Then again with all the RS Meganes, the first one will be pants, then they'll revise it, add a cup chassis and all will be well with the world.
Unless they monumentally cock it up like the Clio.
True for the MKII perhaps, but Renault nailed it with the 250 from off and the car hardly changed at all right through to the 275 Cup S (with the only changes being optional suspension, optional exhaust and a small power hike). Then again with all the RS Meganes, the first one will be pants, then they'll revise it, add a cup chassis and all will be well with the world.

I like the look of the new one. Having gone from a 3dr 250 Cup to a 5 door Clio, I wouldn't go back to a 3 door hatch again. I'm keen to see the finished article though.
Some bizarre comments. It's not all about looks really, and those are quite subjective I would have thought.
Bigger ? Yes, sadly.
Heavy ? No, lighter.
Roll ? How can anyone tell ? If anything it seems to roll less than my Cupped MK3 in those particular corners. Besides, all road cars need some suspension travel I would have thought, quite useful to keep the loaded tyres in contact with the road (and also helps feeling the approaching limit of grip). RS Renaults have been VERY good at suspension movement control (even without Ohlins dampers) so my guess is, it will be excellent to drive too.
5-door ? That's not great for me but I can see the rationale, both economically and functionally.
Let's just hope the 1.6 can cope with 300ps and that there is a manual version.

Argh, 5 door only!
I know that the majority of hot hatches at this market segment are 5 door but I really can't understand why Renault and others continue to ignore a customer group like this.
I sit quite far back and low in my car and can't stand how the B-pillar completes blocks any view out of the side of the car in any 5 door hatchback. Megane RS, Civic type R, Focus RS, all cars I could be interested in if they sold a 3 door. Really leaves only a Golf and a Leon that I could be interested in.
Totally agree, and I'd never buy a 5 door, but at least Ford have it the right way round... small hatch (Fiesta) 3 doors, and big hatch (Focus) 5 doors.I know that the majority of hot hatches at this market segment are 5 door but I really can't understand why Renault and others continue to ignore a customer group like this.

Renault have it stupid atm with the small hatch (Clio) 5 doors and the big hatch (Megane) 3 doors. So, I feel like I could accept this much more if they would only release a 3 door Clio!
