Hilarious how some people plough money into a depreciating asset like a car, but won't put a penny into a decent appreciating asset like a house. Still who am I to tell folk what to do with Their paper.

And not exactly super cars but it does amuse me how on many council estates you'll always see many flash Mercs, audis bimmers Porsches etc.
I take it you don't know the area he's talking about you're looking at 400k minimum for a terraced house, with semis starting at around 600k so whoever they are they're not exactly slumming it & now they have two appreciating assets. smile

I say good on them.

I live in a flat.

I have a 550 Maranello in the garage.

No point wasting money on a house, they don't have V12s biggrin

My first thought when seeing this thread was the recent pictures of the XJ220 outside a modest house, may have been in the GG spotted supercars thread.

And, as above, the price of the house may be just as surprising as the sight of the car. Earlier this year house prices in Lewisham were spiralling quicker than any /most other London Boroughs.

I've not seen anything too super but have seen a lovely R8 and an equally nice F-type R outside modest homes. I love it, but would have to have them out of sight myself.

Edited to add link to XJ220: http://goo.gl/19am6A (as posted by K321).

And also to say that Pagani looks immense!!

Blackheath is in Lewisham - plenty of £2m+ houses there. Lots of £700k houses in the less nice areas too.

But, spend money on what you want to? They might not want to live in a massive house, or have the extra £1m to get one, but do have a way to buy/finance a supercar. Good luck to them; the more nice cars around in a world of ubers, hybrids and dull boring boxes, the better.

Good on them IMO. There's nothing more unimaginative than moving up a generic ring on the housing ladder when you have a bit of spare cash. I'd rather spend £100k on a car like this, than on an extra bedroom I provably won't use and a bit more lawn I'll never touch save for when I have to mow it!

As people have already pointed out, you're clearly ignorant of house prices in Lewisham.

What about expensive cars outside caravans, some people just don't like houses...

Aside from the London houses where they're probably worth a lot more than you'd think, it's possible that these modest houses are owned by people with a portfolio of houses and flats, and rather than just buy one big house, the portfolio is paying for whatever supercar they have sitting on their drive. smile

My personal opinion is that i understand why some people don't want to mortgage themselves up to the eyeballs so they can have disposable income to enjoy a good standard of living. In my job i see so may people with nice houses, massive mortgages but can't afford to go on holiday or buy a nice car. I would rather have a decent house and then have spare cash to spend on things I want.

I've seen this Speciale around a few times parked outside these flats. Must be worth 3x the flat itself!

Is there any other supercar that looks more council than a lamborghini diablo? I'm not talking about supercars with chrome wraps etc, I mean as standard. Something about the early Diablo puts me in the same mind as an old heap of american muscle sat rotting away outside a house with a sofa in the garden.

I love spotting these. Quite a few round here. Or there were.

White R8 V10 outside a normal 3 story terrace house. Just about squeezed it on to drive way.

Black R8 V8 outside a small cottage/bungalow in a small but decent village. Probably not that out of the ordinary really. He's got excellent taste in cars; aforementioned R8 in black (and the V8 is the one I'd have too) and an BMW Z4 M-roadster (or whatever the M-version of the Z4 was).

I do also remember seeing a fairly big house, but nothing that great to look at. Just a big block, on a main road out of town. But someone there had a RR Phantom (which at the time would have cost more than said house) and it was so long (or his drive so short) that it practically had its rear end in the road!

You say ordinary house but how much is a 3 bed semi in se London these days?

750000-1m+?

If there was a Lambo out side a £1m house round hear it would be out side a country manner.
Quite - fancy looking up the value of the house on Zoopla OP (or DM me the address and I'll do it). A £30k car outside a £300+k house isn't really spectacular (in the case of the Aston). If you've got a house that's big enough for your needs and in a good location for you, why not spend your money on a nice car?

Someone else nailed it earlier in the thread.

3-bed semi in the SE - probably worth £500K+ (or a lot more in London).
My ex-in laws (both now deceased) 3 bed terraced house in poor condition in Forest Hill (so a mile or so from Lewisham) was sold earlier this year for £550k

The house with the Lambo is a small 3 bed terrace backing onto a railway line. Others in the street sell for about the £500k mark (which wouldn't get you much else in the area). It hasn't changed hands in many years so I doubt the owner would have paid much for it.

Just to clarify, I don't think it's a bad thing! I just seem to see quite a lot of very flash cars parked outside innocuous houses these days whereas in my youth seeing something like this would have been a treat (especially in Lewisham!). More examples please!
