Based on my experiences with small, cheap cars, Daihatsu are always the safe option. A few mates have had various models (bog standard ones, one had a Charade turbo, another had a GTti). All of them were cheap for what they were, decent to drive (for a small cheap car) and reliable.

The very similar (I think) engine in my snotter Yaris has just passed 116k with no sign of giving up any time soon.

Agreed! No hot hatch should be festooned with chrome imo.

First thing I thought too. What were they thinking?! You don't put chrome on something with a Rally badge (no matter how tenuous the link may be).

Cheapest and easiest solution - in shed spirit - would be to stick some black vinyl over the chrome bits. About £10 spent on eBay and an hour with a sharp knife and a hairdryer should do the trick.

It's refreshing to see so many people state they've never heard of the car as that adds to its appeal. Being a fan of lightweight Jap cars with a bit of poke I remember trying to find one of these years ago to no avail. No surprise given the few that were made and even less so still left.

It's a cheap lightweight shed that could easily give a new Swift Sport a run for it money, and most likely the forthcoming Up Gti too.What better way to spend 600 sheets?!

Brilliant little cars, this was mine until recently now used as a 'through the lanes' commuter by a friends wife.



It's a Rallye 4 and a proper hoot. Springs have to be specially made because you can't buy them off the shelf and insurance companies aren't really sure what they are. Popular little road rally cars too.

I just found it a wee bit physically small but I've got first dibs if they ever decide to sell it again

As a previous owner of an Ignis Sport and SportKa I can happily look beyond the visual, er, aesthetics. Struggling a bit with the chrome though.

Brilliant shed.

I sort of remember them when they were new, writer nailed it, I remember them being repulsively ugly 'back in the day' but it's fairly contemporary now, still ugly, just not shockingly so.

No idea they made a quick one, let alone an AWD one.

AWD one tested at Hot Hatch day at Rockingham circuit ( Mondeo made it in for comparison iirc )
