Quite like the overly styled agressive looks, but what's going on with where the rear doors meet the curved wide rear wheel arches surely the doors should have an add on bit to bring them out to match curve.

I'd struggle to get past those looks. I'm sure it's fun, but RWD with level of power would surely drive better in our damp climate. I'd image the traction control light would be on most of the time.

No mention in the article of the lighter and more 'hardcore' Type R which is rumoured. I was hoping PH could have had a scoop on this rather than a regurgitated Honda press release.

Sounds really promising so far!

Looks wise, again just like the FK2, it'll look so much better in the flesh than in the Photos IMO and a more 'hardcore' version, Honda did a Mugen FK2 but they didn't release it as far as I'am aware, only as a Concept, so i wouldn't hold your breath.

Be good if they did obviously wink

How can Hot Hatches get better than this current/upcoming lot? This CTR, Megane, i30 N, just to name a few.

I saw a 'cooking' model at Croft, it still had twin, centre exhausts. What a dogs dinner in terms of styling. Not that looks are everything, however it's a pretty shouty design.

Looks like the makings of a fantastic car.

I'm sure there will still be those that want a 4WD system and less agressive styling, but then I think they may be missing the point Honda is trying to make!

Good effort on making something original and I'm going to be interested on how this car ages when looking back in 5-10 years...
Those people go & buy a Golf GTI, I like the fact it's different but I'm not a fan of the looks on this newer model I quite liked the FK2's brashness saying that I like the newer exhaust setup & think that would have made the FK2 look less fussy & IMO a better, I still think I'd head Fords way to grab the ST & then visit Mountune for some choice (MR300 Kit Driveline Upgrade & big brake kit) upgrades

Like the FK2 I wanna see it in the flesh. In principal I like it however. Cos it's two fingers up to the (VW) establishment.

Everyone said the previous generation (FK2) looked like a dogs dinner but I think it looks pretty decent. It's certainly got much better with time and I'm looking forward to potentially picking up a second hand bargain in a couple of years or so anyway.... This one I'm sure will be the same.

So much lower and sleeker than the old one, I think it pulls off the OTT aero much better as a result. Plus, proper rear suspension.

As far as I can tell to 60mph this car has only improved on a mk2 focus RS from 8 years ago (2009) by 0.2 of a second.

Not sure where you are getting your figures from but no, this is no faster in gear than said RS from 8 years ago and due to that and being more refined would not feel faster either.

It would however I should imagine be a fair bit quicker in the corners.

Is it now a saloon car like the Impreza? It does have a 5 door hatchback but not in the style of of traditional hot hatchbacks. I loved my FN2 but am struggling to get my head round the "transformers" design language

I don't want a car that looks like this for that price point. There will be buyers who do though, and good luck to them.

In a world where we have Golf Rs and GTIs, and Focus RSs and STs, there should be room once again for this flamboyant and aggressive Type R and a more discreet and softer but still capable 220-250bhp Type S.

If Honda make that, then I might be very interested for a daily driver.

I'd take an fd2 and supercharge it. Or two fd2s.

Or anything other than this. I just don't get why they've gone down this route. The nsx, ek9, dc2, S2000 were all very clean designs that were never about outright numbers but did have something special about them...this just looks goping and doesn't raise the bar in an perceptible way that I've picked up from any road tests.

Want fwd, go GTi.

Want straight line numbers, go R.

Top speed is impressive... But who is going to try that out beyond a very long track straight...

Genuinely one of the ugliest cars of the current options... Gutted doesn't even come close. grumpy

Interesting. At first sight my thought was, WOW, that is rather nice looking. A hatch that isn't one of the ugly hard edged wedge shape things that infest our roads.

Then I see half of the posters agree with the article, that it is not good looking. Must be something to do with immaturity & brain washing I suppose.

Still Honda insist in these front drive things, after proving just how good they can be at rear drive cars. Pity. I guess I am going to be still waiting for something to replace my now aged S2000.

How big is that boot exactly?

Think that numb steering is partly to blame on those rediculously large 20" rims. Will help dry grip and sharpness, but numb the steering and make it more a handfull in the rain. Would probably put on some superlight 19" with PS4S tyres first thing, just as good in the dry and much better in the rain and more feel...

Figures? I'm basing it on having owned a mk2 RS for a year and on having driven the slightly slower fk2 a couple of times. Honda much, much quicker. If you go mp350 or mr375 then of course that changes things but the standard RS was never that quick (and unlike the Honda they never made the power they were supposed to). Have you driven the Honda? Nope didn't think so.

I love Honda, I really do.
And I like this.
But "perhaps the best hot hatch on sale??"

It wouldn't see which way an A45 went.
There comes a point when FWD and xxx bhp become incompatible - circa 300 I'd say.

Best is not the same as fastest in a straight line. On a dry track, the A45 is left behind as it will be approx 200kg more irl. And fwd can take more as long as the driver knows when and when not to deploy it. Bit like a very powerful rwd or bike...

Looks a lot better in these images than I expected. Good on Honda for taking (some) criticisms on board and improving on the previous Type R. I don't believe it being FWD is a negative, arguable the best hot hatch of the last crop was FWD (Megane). So what it is slower 0-60 than an A45/RS3/Golf R etc...Only sad gits are worried about the traffic light grand prix.

It will be interesting to see what happens to the values of the last Type R, looking around a good one can be had for about £23k, that's not bad...
