One of the pitfalls of cheap finance, a decade ago he would have been in something slower.
Hope the passenger makes it.

With respect, how do you that cheap finance is to blame?

Also a nutter like that would just as easily have wrecked himself in a £10K M3 or a £3K Clio 197.

I know a few of the people commenting on the facebook post, they suggest he's a bit of a bellend, driving like that would back that up, luckily he didn't hit anyone else.

But that wouldn't impress the ladies on the smeed's, now would it? Image is everything with those type of young men.

Yet another 20-something who thinks life is a Playstation game, which you can reset when it all goes a pete tong.

Absolutely no sympathy for him, wishing a full recovery for the passenger.
I think it is an unfortunate side effect of modern cars. They're so safe now that people do not respect the vehicle and how quickly things can get out of control.

Driving cheap crap when you're younger and having some 'hairy moments' teaches you to respect the car's capabilities and the possible consequences. He has clearly missed this vital step.

All of us have had some moments when young but in a less powerful car we mostly all lived to tell the tale.

He could have put his foot down for the same amount of time in something slower but likely got out of shape at a slower speed, 22 is too young for that sort of power imo and he would probably treat it better if he owned it outright (I'm guessing it's on lease).

Nasty. I feel for the passenger and the families.

It must have been a hairy moment for the people in the silver hatchback. They can't have been far off getting wiped out.

Sorry to be *that guy* but how fast was he actually going?

If you put it on mute, And consider that the person who was filming it was stationary (i.e. it's different from a dash cam of a moving vehicle), how fast was he actually going? I doubt it was more than 80, and im assuming that road is 60 limit or so?

I'm not defending him, I'm just saying that it might seem faster due to the noise it's making as well as the video being taken by someone whose stationary.

He is driving like a twit otherwise though, his speed didn't at all compliment the road conditions or situation whatsoever. But I hope he and his girlfriend make a full recovery

Going by the various reportings of him looks like he was addicted to speed so only a matter of time before he did something completely stupid - hope the passenger recovers.

Just thankful he did not wipe out some of the completely innocent bystanders

It's often said on here that speed doesn't kill, inappropriate speed does. This was inappropriate.

At least no other vehicles were involved. Hopefully they both make a speedy recovery and then he can get a driving ban.

That's something of an assumption. I would say a wrong one; for as long as there have been fast cars there have been young men rich enough to afford the flashiest and most expensive ones as status symbols, despite the fact they cost anything up to a decade's wages for a mere mortal...

It's a valid question, so a few of my thoughts:

  • Fast enough that another video in the Facebook thread linked has 5 popping type noises, seconds after he passed. The gasps of spectators suggests that these are trees he collided with.
  • Fast enough that a marshal on the video is frantically signaling the Porsche Carrera GT, leaving, to not pull out. Presumably he knows full well the prat in the M2 would have no chance of stopping.
  • Fast enough to get a very good handling car seriously out of control.
  • Fast enough that the wreck was bad enough to need to cut both him and his girlfriend out of it.
  • Fast enough to slice a pretty hefty tree in to two.

I'd guess he may have been around the 100 mark, give or take a bit.

I wonder what a 22 year-old does to have an M2. Presumably not a graduate, as they tend to leave university at 22 with big debts, but what sort of job lets you leave school at sixteen or eighteen nowadays and earn enough for what's close to £50k once you put some options on it.

An earlier look on his Instagram suggests there is a fair bit of family silver - lots of flash cars, watch and bike content.

I'd have thought so too, by the other pics. I dont get the impression hes on minimum wage and paying £700 a month on finance.
