He repeated that advice on the certificate, so you wouldn't be such a fkwit again in the future. Unfortunately, his fkwittery-prevention only extends as far as an hour a year, and he knows damn well that you're going to put them straight back on. With that in mind, covering his arse by saying "Look, I warned the muppet about the stupid fking things" in the only way possible seems like a very wise move.
This is basically the point, and answers the OP's question fully. He might not want to hear it, but it does answer the question. laugh

Personally, I'd have worded it a little more politely than TooMany2cvs did, but the bottom line is that the MoT tester is (justifiably) covering his own backside.

In what way?

What has it cost her?
What has it gained them?

Nothing. There is zero gain to anybody, zero loss to anybody because it's on there.

BUT... if you get caught with the stupid fking things on the way back from the test, the tester could lose his job if he's not flagged 'em.

But, no, your ego is more important than his job.

I'd say the advisory is wrong.

They ought to have failed it, removed them, and then passed it on the retest.
Christ, that would have been a whole worse thread of 'I can't believe that it failed for THAT, goddamn MOT testers are s11!1!1!1!1!'

Etc.

So they're actually screwed in to the towing eye sockets? Is this common practice in Brussels?

Seems a bit harsh on anyone who might walk past the back of your car in the dark.

I'd suggest he's noted it because he assumes you're planning to put them back on.

Oh, you're one of those, are you?
"If you're not going to tell me what I want to hear, go away..."

Look, it's very simple. You presented a car for MOT with sharp objects on the bodywork. Rather than fail it, the tester advised you, and you removed them there and then. This is how it should work. Satnav, cuddly dice, other "hilarious" tat blocking the screen? Point it out, let the owner remove it. Or leave it in, fail it, and get sworn at. If the tester removed it himself, you can bet there'd be complaints about damage and the rest...

Do you know I wondered how long it would take to come from under your bridge, not bad 30mins...

Please dont call me a fkwit you dont know me and nor do I wish you to either. It is people like you trolling posts on PH and a big reason that people dont share stories or advise because they are afraid of trolls like you shouting them down, so i suggest if you have some constructive to say then please go ahead but to set up scenarios calling people names for no reason sorry jog on.

All I know of you is that photo of the back of your car, and your whinging because those ridiculous little protuberances got pointed out to you in writing. Boo. Hoo.

That, afaict, is fairly solid proof.

It's been round the car park at burger king. Isn't that the same thing?

For a PRS, you'd have a fail recorded first. Then you'd whine.

What other downside is there to an advisory, apart from offending your ego?

Don't tell me... It's wiped thousands off the value of your car...

BTW - you did notice that Morgan agreed with my post, right? He just didn't call you a fkwit in quite so many words. Since you thanked him, but had a pop at me, that would seem to reinforce this being entirely about your ego...

I agreed with what you were saying, because it got to the heart of the matter. What I didn't agree with was the way you expressed it, hence stating I'd have been a bit more polite.

I find that a good rule of thumb when posting on internet forums is to ask yourself if you'd say exactly what you just typed to the person's face.

If you go around calling people fkwits, it takes someone more reasonable to pull the salient points out, as the original meaning is inevitably lost in hail of keyboard-fired bullets.

A tow bar isn't spiky.

HTH.
no your right they dont, but they do stick out further than the car so if you do want to walk between cars and not use your eyes you could do yourself more injury with a towbar...

so what are your thoughts on bull bars on the front of cars too then??? get a lot of those on city streets do you?
