Looks like a Volvo. I mean previous gen Volvo, the new ones look better.

I think the reason petrol cars of similar spec are more expensive than diesels is to cover the EU fine for emissions

All manufacturers have to pay a levy for average CO2 emissions (even though its a discredited system) across the range and the extra cost is for this, even though in many cases a petrol car is actually cheaper to produce

MDMA .

Why is a V6 petrol £15,000 more expensive than the V6 diesel? Is the spec really that different?
Is the derv version 'decontented'?

They should have charged more for the diesel as some people love to pay over-the-odds to save a buck or two on tax or use two litres less fuel per tankful.

If I was in the market for a large luxury saloon, this would be it. For some reason, BMW and Mercedes don't offer their top models in short wheelbase in the UK and I just can't understand a long wheelbase AMG, for example, other than purely for showboating.

Are you sure?

I'll check, but I'm sure one of my cycling buddies has just got a non-'L' 740d.

As awkward and generally gopping as ever. This is a Jaguar XJ, a thing of beauty:

This.

If you take the 'Brexit goggles' off, this is a gopping car. Previous XJs are sublime.

Since when did 'gopping' become an acceptable word to use?

The only thing more 'gopping' than an allegedly 'gopping' car is a Internet warrior repeatedly using the word. It's the virtual equivalent of the fat unlikable nerd in the office that thought his comes tie/waistcoat/sock combo was 'cool'.

New? Seriously? Looks pretty dated now, which it is.
Guess they'll sell a few to a few government agencies but little else. Its like Jaguar seem to be the poor relation compared with Land Rover within JLR when it comes to investment in new models, which is a shame.

Barge of choice in 10 years time, preferably in the 1 to 5 large category.

Poor effort, 2/10 for a stuttering, lame 'yeah but' comeback. I'm underwhelmed, expected better.

Try again, but use your wits - all 50% of them.

By "top model", I meant the 760 (or whatever they're calling it now). Same as the S63 & 65 AMG - Only on Merc's configurator in LWB guise. frown

Ah! Didn't used to be the case with the S63. Is it on 'roll-out' ahead of new model?

Have you been away for a long time:-
2013 all new F type
2015 all new XE
2016 all new XF & all new F-Pace
2017 all new E-Pace & all new XF Sportbrake

Yes the XJ is the next in line to be replaced but is there a large enough global market any more ?, saloons in the US are outsold by SUV, the F-Pace is currently the biggest seller in the Jaguar range.

Looks like they've updated the XJs main weakness, the outdated infotainment system.

Dynamically it's often reported to be best in class, up there with the Porsche Panamera.

Not sure how long Jaguar can continue to use the supercharged 5.0l V8 for their top models mind, competition now getting more power out of smaller and more efficient engines.

Trouble is, all the new stuff from TATA is not as good.....

Yes, it is the beginning of the end. I'm in the US at the mo and on the news GM are ditching 6 saloons from their line up, as SUV's are similar prices and what peeps want.

As for this XJ it is a belter. I had one for two weeks recently, a 3.0D Portfolio and if we didn't have a dog I would buy one in a flash. Really had me hooked. I am slightly biased being a Jag fan, but driving a BMW or MB, although very modern, just doesn't 'have me at hello....'

I guess this is the last push before it goes, long live the XJ!

The V8's will cease to comply to legislation on August 31st 2018.
