Who actually watches Formula E?
I not met a single person who has watched it. I tried and found it terminally dull.
Every time I've put it on, they're no tiny little street circuits so there's no overtaking.I not met a single person who has watched it. I tried and found it terminally dull.
Why is that?
Whereas in reality, I think if they put them on a 'real' circuit, as highlighted by the Donington pre-season test times, it shows that a £10,000 Forumla Jedi is quicker than the current tech...
For what it's worth - I've watched it, pretty much every round this year. There are a lot of elements that still baffle me, but they've made a hell of a go of it in just three short years. The the whole 'city center feel' argument is the one I can't get my head round; largely as it doesn't translate well for TV. With the possible exception of Templehof, the track level cameras pick up the same concrete barriers and catch fences at every round. They could have done the entire season in a car park in Canvey Island for all I know...

DTM wasn't great anyways but the commentators were better than BTCC. I'm sure there were only Audi Merc and BMW racing at one point?
Formula E can fk off its the most boring st ive ever watched alongside Love Island.
Ive not watched F1 since about 2013 either. Mainstream motorsport is total dross these days. Surprised they dont put Formula V8 on TV always amazes me that F1 gets more interest than something like the V8 support races, but then I am a pertol head and dont give a toss about the drivers really and I guess thats the problem, people are starstruck and dont care about the cars and are more concerned about the stars and glamour that goes with it.

The golden era of motor racing is definitely over.
F1 = rubbish.
FE = rubbish.
WRC = rubbish.
WEC = rubbish.
BTC = rubbish.
DTM = rubbish.
IoM TT = last man standing.
If you have kids, take them to the IoM TT next year. It is the last chance they will ever get to see proper mental racing. The future of racing is glorified milkfloats humming round in tedious circles.

BTW world RX is quite good.
Formula E sounds exactly like Scalextric but is less exciting to watch .....

I can't speak of the future but the current reality of Formula E is that it's a token-effort race that is all about attempting to make an electric propulsion 'statement' in motor racing.
The hard reality is that the actual racing is borderline on embarrassing and I genuinely cannot remember a worse racing series short of a fairground ride as a child.
It may be the future from a marketing / P.R perspective, but as a genuine motorsport event, it needs to virtually re-invent itself to be a truly credible alternative to other top level racing series.

On a (slightly) different note, there are numerous reports saying Porsche are pulling out of WEC as well....
I've just read that too..Porsche to step up to F1 and Audi to concentrate on Formula E.
Le Mans will urgently need to rethink the prototype classes...or scrap them entirely and let the GT battle take centre stage.
In terms of F1, I watched the Silverstone race (first race I watched this season) and I really enjoyed it - much against my expectations. I think it was because of the camera work - I really got the sense of speed as the cars powered through Copse, Maggots and Becketts right on the edge. First time in ages it looked like the drivers were really working hard.
Just a shame the cars still sound so terrible.

That leaves LMP2 as the only well-contested category.
FWIW I've absolutely loved WEC this year (and the last few), Porsche vs Toyota has been a great season at the top of the field, with 4 other classes to keep you occupied at the same time!
Motorsport is getting very dull across the board. Formula E is dreadful to watch despite some close racing. Touring cars and rally died with the end of homoligation, it is hard to watch hatchbacks that bear zero resemblance to anything you can buy race! I guess at least Formula E might help develop some decent electric road cars.
For god's sake manufacturers please race variants of a road car we can buy! Just look at the GT3, seems to work for Porsche. If only you
could actually buy one......

i wouldn't go watch electric racing if it was in my garden.
The noise is what makes a vehicle sound powerful .
I used to go watch truck racing live which sounded great but when they put it on the telly ,it lost all its excitement because the screeching tyres and engine noise were hardly heard.

Formula E in Battersea park was an instant success.......
Even electric cars was too much for the NIMBY locals.
Living by Battersea Park as I do, and as a keen lover of cars and motorsport, let's examine the NIMBY comment. On the face of it, a correct view, many locals didn't like the disruption caused; but was it any good? Absolutely not! It was dreadful! The road around the park is too narrow and tree lined. This meant limited overtaking, and that as a spectator you could only see very limited sections of the track. Combine that with slow cars, and I soon joined the masses wanting it out of the park. I would happily have put up with the 1 week a year I couldn't walk my dog properly had it been a great spectacle. But if this is the future of motorsport, thank god I was around to watch ICE racing because this was and remains dire. Even electric cars was too much for the NIMBY locals.
