I don't see the point in the mega bucks carbon bits and pieces...if you like the look so much get the parts dipped - probably get all the bits dipped for several hundred pounds, and if any get damaged (which they will...spliters, diffusers etc) the replacements will be a fraction too. Probably get more enjoyment out of driving it knowing it's less precious too.

I'd love a relatively basic 570...I wouldn't even consider the Audi against it, it's just less super.

I know this isn't a really PH comment, but I really like that green.
Like the green and the interior colour really sets it off however it is £7k for the seats in that spec.

What's with Audi's press car colour choices for this car at the moment?

That's actually worse than the one I drove.

What's great about the green? I don't see how it's any different to the same bland green you can find on some crusty old Focus.

For me, it's a lot of money for the Audi, despite knowing the virtually identical Huracan commands the same price. This is somewhat shown in the ads, as the residuals aren't great.

Omg that audi looks sooooo dated. Are the seats sitting on cushions?

Also why has it got a front grill bigger than a v12 Aston? Looks like a cheap plastic fireplace stuck on the front of a mid engined car in a desperate failed attempt to add prestige. What next a Rolls Lady on the bonnet? Bwahahaaaaaaaa!

If you can't stretch to the Audi, you might be able to pick up the same colour on a VW wink

From a little bit of investigation, you are paying £7k for the colour of the leather on the seats - not the seats (or the fact that they are leather/diamond stitched). So if you just go for a regular colour, it's only a no cost/£450 option. So there is a saving to be made right there on the R8 spec.

Thought that was a little daft considering the seats look identical to the ones in my S5 and they certainly were NOT £7k!!!!

Ive given up trying to read it, know clue who any of the people your comparing the cars to and think I need a thesaurus to work out what you were going on about.

You dont have to use all these fancy words to make it a good read, your just making less people want to read it! Some of us arent as well educated to understand what your trying to say.

£325 for Audi exclusive floor mats eek and aren't all manufacturers floor mats exclusive to their own marque?

Not sure what worse, £325 for mats or the £350 they wanted for Red Callipers on our S3....especially when 75% of the caliper doesn't even get painted red

570s with sports exhaust and silencer delete for me please.

The Audi's proportions look wrong with the roof down, and a canvass roof on a supercar just doesnt seem right to me, when the alternative has a folding CF hardtop!!

The logo your keyfob & car shouldnt matter.... but Mclaren Vs Audi, is like Omega vs Casio. Audi is just not an aspirational brand. Which is what I want if spending £150k of my hard earned cash.

I bought a 9 month old Saab 9-3 Vector SS back in 2003 in graphite green metallic. Can't recall ever seeing another in that colour but I thought it looked the nuts, especially with professionally tinted windows.

Very similar to this Audi but somehow it doesn't suit it. Too dark?

That's kind of the point. If you want fast versions of ordinary cars you have a limited selection of very ordinary colours, or you have to pick some sort of "exclusive" option which costs thousands. Why? It's still just paint. Same goes for sports cars - the standard paint colours are usually predictable.

I speak with authority on this as my last three cars have been black. This is partly because a lot of cars look good in black as the grilles etc. are the same colour and partly because I didn't like the other colours, but I think my next car's going to be something different. So what if it hits the resale value? My daughter wants a purple car and I'm tempted.

I also like the brown that Porsche do. Like this one.

I think it's pretty obvious that those options simply exist to capitalise on those for whom money is no object. You can't sit and justify each one because McLaren themselves probably couldn't. But if someone will pay for it, why not offer it? It's one of those perpetual things. If it puts more ££ into the manufacturers account for developing other products then why not? That said, I'd love to know some of the profit margins!

I like both, the subtlety of the R8 coupled with it being as-easy-to-drive as a hatchback, plus the madness and extravagance of the McLaren. Fortunately not a decision I'm ever likely to need to make!

“To do so obliges you to nudge the airliner-style gear lever into Drive, and then marvel at how effortlessly the R8 slips its mooring. It's like runny honey at slow speeds; the seamless interaction of engine and gearbox”

Is Santa Barbara or Troy Queef writing for PH these days?

And, with a dab of oppo....

Got my miserable hat on at the moment, so just got to say that the options on that Mclaren cost more than a chief Inspector in the Police earns. Before h/she pay tax...
