Sorry for the late response, it's been a busy day!

Let me guess, it's one of those ugly 'current style' personal plates (e.g. AB12CDE) but is of course older than the actual car and/or says something stupid with the last three characters.
Absolutely 100% spot onbiggrin Comes with the full house of dodgy letter spacing and 'stategically-placed' fixing screws!

Not worth 8p, let alone £80....

The correct plate would be a '59' (not that it makes that much difference)

I'd just ditch the stupid screws and it won't stand out.

It will of been his/her initials or vice verse - still worth the £100 to someone else ... those plates start at about £240 on the DVLA Cherishrd Regs site

I’d still transfer it off and bang it up on eBay that will list it forever till it sells ... easy little money maker

Still for sale at £240 on DVLA Select is "Look, we know nobody actually wants this, but we're ever-optimistic"

That's uncanny - I was wondering this exact same thing just yesterday as I'd seen a car I might buy that had a private plate I wouldn't want, so thanks for asking 280E! I'd happily pay £80 to get rid too so that's good.
It's free to have the original plate (if vanity plate transfer took place after original registration) put back on

No charge at all to ditch a vanity plate been covered on these forums many times

Lets hope they are stick on screw head covers and the previous owner hasn't attacked the boot lid with self tappers.
