Yet £35k on a Seat doesn’t even get a reaction? I find that genuinely bizarre.
Utterly ludicrous I guess if SEAT was allowed by VWFS to offer the massive discounts and mega cheap lease deals that the Golf R was, there'd be less gnashing.

I'm still struggling to decipher the opinion of the writer through the synonym, metaphor riddled bullst fest. Dreadful! And 18" brakes, really?
As pointed out by others, the price difference makes this something of a non-comparison. Would it be compared with a £31k Civic Type R or a £32k Focus RS? Nope!
Agree on the overload of metaphors. To be fair though '18" brakes" will be from the marketing blurb. Generally in the automotive industry, we refer to brake size by the size of wheel they fit behind. So an 18" brake requires at a minimum an 18" wheel. As pointed out by others, the price difference makes this something of a non-comparison. Would it be compared with a £31k Civic Type R or a £32k Focus RS? Nope!
It does make me laugh that so many are still polarised by the fact it's a Hyundai. For me, it would be a genuine consideration against something like a Golf GTI. Why would you go for the Golf or Leon which are more expensive, less involving and probably less reliable....

Indeed. IMO a good article conveys its message in a clear manner for the target audience, not to try and make the author look clever. This one has 'pretentious tit' written all over it. Step away from the thesaurus! csd19 said:

Seat Leon Cupra available at the moment for £259 on a 1+23. Thats why the price comparison doesn't hold true as I would be very suprised if Hyundai could get to that with the expected residuals this i30 will have.
I don't get what people are struggling with when reading this article. It's a bit leaden but rather that than the asinine Shed style writing which might appeal to those for whom The Inbetweeners is a little sophisticated, or Dan Trent's abysmal sub Key Stage 2 witterings. As regards the cars, I have within 5 miles of home both a Seat and Hyundai dealer so on my week off, I could be persuaded to take a look. If they've reached Cornwall yet.
Driving a VAG MQB platform machine, to me, makes you more of a drone/my mum whilst choosing the Hyundai means you must have a significant degree of Pistonhead about you.
Yes I know dsg is great, as are pdk s and I have a ZF8 speed auto that’s awesome as well. But a hot hatch isn’t rrrreally a hot hatch without a manual shift gearbox. If you can’t handle a clutch...

Quality writing. IMHO. Infinitely better than the usual press pack filtering. As to the cars. I really like the Leon - of the varied MQB cars I've driven, it's my favourite, bar the Golf GTE. But the Hyundai intrigues - It's that deep sown craziness I look for in a hot hatch. But the Megane comes soon and that car is going to be good. And cheap.

The Hyundai is £6k cheaper which even allowing for DSG (who wants that in a hot hatch really) is a big chunk of change. I’d have the i30N plus a motorbike and be very happy.
I suspect quite a lot, considering that over half of hot hatches sold where a DSG box is available are indeed sold with a DSG.Trophy-GTA said:

I actually thought it was a lot better than the usual stuff.
Looked a little further into this car and the reviews seem pretty good. The exhaust actually sounds way better than I would have first thought, although a lot say the interior isn't anything exciting. Not that the Cupras is either. The Cupra 290 BE I have corners like it's on rails, it's absolutely brilliant. But I'm more and more tempted by this little Hyundai when this car is due to go back. The really tinny crackles are a little off-putting though, overly artificial like the A45 and Focus RS.
The sort of blue/whitish hue is absolutely perfect too. Hyundai could be on to a serious winner here if they discount them keenly to push into the market.

So glad I'm not the only one! I appreciate qood writing, but I start to lose interest when it all becomes a bit........wky. I thought I was reading a Guardian article at times.I'd take the Hyundai out of those two - even with that light blue paint work, which I think suits it very well indeed
It seems like a good first try, I wonder how it squares up against the Peugeot Sport 308gti? What with them both being somewhat left field choices
This segment really has oodles of top notch choice these days - what a time to be alive
