RE: Ford teases its most powerful road car ever
Discussion
I do agree with much of the comments up front. Although a muscle car with lots of power had its place in history, it’s pretty much pointless now. People will care it’s a mustang and not much more. And about drag racing, there’s no way in hell this could keep up with a fast Tesla. The argument of a supercar is that not only is it fast, it’s brilliant in the corners, and everything. This, is much more like a one trick pony like the Tesla. The GT350R is a much cooler car

As a decent comparison:Charger Hellcat 11.2 @ 125
P100D 10.8 @ 124
Both cars have gone quicker with mild tweaking but that's a different discussion. Given that you could (more or less) by two Hellcats for the price of the Tesla I think I'll allow the ~0.4 to be called 'keeping up'.

You're wrong about that - the point of a supercar (or in fact any car designed for fun) is to make the owner (and other car enthusiasts to a certain degree) feel like a little kid on Christmas morning, to make you grin and enjoy the process of driving it, the sounds it makes, how it reacts to you etc...It's not about absolute numbers, or what is 0.5 seconds faster around a track, or where and when you can deploy 700bhp for more than a few seconds , or any of that stuff.
If you fail to understand that , you'll never see the point in a car like this.
Not personally a fan of the Mustang, but good on Ford for making this. Having a powerful pd supercharged car is great fun and only being able to deploy full power through the gears once a year on a runway is not an issue

The 650hp Camaro ZL1 is already available and lighter and better handling and with a Nurburgring time the Mustang is probably unlikely to challenge.
You should pop that in a letter to Ford to stop them developing it. They'll be relieved at the cost saving. Or maybe your statements were totally unfounded with no basis for comparison. Who knows.

Love it, could easily make this RHD if you wanted to now that you can get the lesser Mustangs in RHD.
Might P/X my Mustang for one, I wonder how long I'd keep my license?
Sadly, much like the GT350, I don't think it's scheduled for anywhere outside the US. I REALLY REALLY REALLY wanted a GT350R (and would still prefer one to a GT500) but it looks like 2018 will be the final year for the GT350 so my hopes for a RHD version seem to have been dashed. I can only imagine it will be the same for the GT500 - it seems Ford don't want to go to the expense of Euro emissions, crash testing etc for limited run models.Might P/X my Mustang for one, I wonder how long I'd keep my license?

Sorry, I meant an independent could easily convert one to RHD.Coin Slot. said:

Yep, I guess they could - not sure how the 5.2L S/C installation differs from the regular Coyote but I would imagine that would be the only major issue. Just a shame they don't come in RHD in the first place! .... Awesome. This is the power it should have to compete with the Dodge etc. Quite the beast but obviously not for the fuddy duddy grandad somewhere above.
I was at the autosport show last week and they had a couole of very nice mustangs, I looked at it and thought "yep, love that, I'd buy one if they made a smaller shrunk down version" it's very nice but just a bit big for my liking.

Is it 700bhp US power which is probably more like 500bhp over here, or is it actualyl 700bhp in the UK?
I think their power measurements are similar to ours it's their Gallons which are quite a bit less than ours for no other reason I can see except they wanted to be different. And if you're not used to it, you think their mpg is more rubbish than it really is.Rawwr said:

It's all about halo models but GM and Dodge have already been there but only GM seem serious about making a ridiculously fast car.Or maybe your statements were totally unfounded with no basis for comparison. Who knows.
I am sure Ford will aslo stick a "Shelby" badge on it, despite no actual input.
Or... you could read the glowing road tests, I suppose and look at the 'Ring times, I suppose....
7:13.90 Chevrolet Corvette C7 Z06
7:16.04 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE (2018)
that's 2 seconds faster than the 911 GT2 and GT3.
Seems a fairly founded basis to me. After all, Ford did their best with the over-hyped GT350R so let's see if they can do better this time.
